And their kettle of mulligan stew.
With ninety-nine offspring researching their roots—
All descendants of Malachi Blue.
The venue they chose for posting their notes,
And to share what they'd learned family-wide
Was the Malachi Blue Facebook Progeny Group—
And it burgeoned the Blue family pride.
Sire Malachi Blue took a wife, Mrs. Blue,
In the year of our Lord, 'ninety two.
To this union were born, Ezra, Silas, and Frank—
The offspring of Malachi Blue.
The Silas Blue branch of the Blue Family,
Was distinguished for having green eyes,
While the Ezra Blue branch kept a prized recipe
With directions for Oxberry Pie.
A gold pocket watch was a treasured antique;
Descendants of Frank were its heirs.
"Forever True Blue," was inscribed on the watch,
A motto they proudly declared.
The town where they lived, named for Malachi Blue,
Was squeezed between town limit signs.
<i>"Welcome to Blueville"</i> the sign advertised,
<i>"Our Populace: Blues — ninety-nine."</i>
Each year in July, Blueville town citizens
Proudly marched in the Founder's Parade,
Then 'neath an old oak grown by Malachi Blue,
They picnicked, kept cool in its shade.
Then after their meal they all shared in a toast,
They bellowed with voice loud and strong,
And raising their glasses of iced lemonade,
They honored their forbear in song.
<i>"Old Malachi Blue was as fierce as a wolf.
He felled seven trees with one chop.
He chased down a grizzly bear just for the sport
While harvesting acres of crop."</i>
The Malachi Blue Facebook Progeny Page
Had a portrait of Malachi Blue.
In sepia-tone, between Ezra and Frank,
Were Silas and Mrs. Blue, too.
More photos on Facebook: Their ancient oak tree,
And the picnic and parade last July,
The heirloom gold watch with some personal notes,
And directions for Oxberry Pie.
There also were <i>notes</i> with more words to their song
Boasting glories of Malachi Blue
With verse after verse filled with legends and lore
As their tale exponentially grew.
On the document page were the dates of their births
And the records of marriages, too.
And every event—be it future or past,
Was recorded for each Blue to view.
Three branches of Blues set to research their roots,
Perused through old archived <i>Blue Times</i>,
Found a notice of theft of a gold pocket watch
That was listed in <i>Robberies and Crimes</i>.
That heirloom gold watch, owned by Frank's family,
Had from Ezra Blue's home disappeared,
And never recovered while Ezra Blue lived,
Lay forgotten— with passing of years.
They posted more notes from the articles found
And the Ezra branch family rage grew.
Indictments were made about Silas and Frank,
Two offspring of Malachi Blue.
More research conducted perusing the Times
The Silas branch thought was a prank,
An accident happened; the recipe changed,
And the Oxberry Pie poisoned Frank.
Then a strange revelation that troubled the Blues,
Concealed underneath a dark smudge
On a notice of birth for old Malachi Blue,
'Twas revealed that his last name was Bludge.
The Malachi Blue Facebook Progeny page
Was removed when they dug up this sludge.
The offspring have started a <i>new</i> Facebook group
With a motto—"Forever True Bludge."</center>
