FAITHWRITERS NEWLETTER
FaithWriters.com news and information for the write-brained Christian!

"Then suddenly there appeared with the angel an army of the troops of heaven praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is well pleased." – Luke 2:13, 14

I don't know about you, but when I read those verses, I imagine that the army of the troops of heaven "praising and saying" definitely included singing. Think about the praise and worship time in your church. Can you imagine a whole ARMY of angels over that stable, singing praises to Jesus the newborn King? Wow! What a picture!

Singing naturally accompanies the Christmas season. What better way to wish Jesus a happy birthday? What better way to express our thanks to Him for leaving his glorious heavenly home to come to earth as a dependent, crying, diaper wearing baby? What a gift God has given us!

Speaking of singing, be sure to check out the Out of the Mouths of FaithWriters section at the bottom of this newsletter for some of your fellow FaithWriters members' favorite Christmas carols.

AND THE WINNER IS…

It's the moment we've all been waiting for! After months of wondering just who will become this year's winner of the annual PAGE TURNER CONTEST, the results are in. As you know, the focus was on non-fiction this time around. The competition was fierce, the writing top-notch, and coming up with the winners was no easy task. But one entry has been determined to have the best page turning, publication potential.

Please join me in congratulating the GRAND PRIZE WINNER…

CORINNE SMELKER for the first chapter of her manuscript, Answering Hannah's Cry.

Cori takes home a ton of wonderful prizes, including free editing of her entire manuscript from Finesse Editing, press releases, publicity and marketing, and of course, that $800 WAD OF CASH !

CONGRATULATIONS, CORI!

Also to be recognized for their outstanding entries are two runners up. The following two FaithWriters members will each receive a beautiful "Highly Commended" award plaque.

And the runners up are:

Joanne  Sher, for the first chapter of her manuscript, Ailing Body, Nourished Soul

Once again, congratulations to the winners and thanks to all of you who took the time to enter this year's PAGE TURNER CONTEST!

This quarter's Weekly Writing Challenge is winding down and December 18 marks the end of the Christmas theme. The Challenge will then go on a brief holiday hiatus until January 8.

Now, we know there are many Challenge addicts who can't stand the thought of going a whole three weeks without some sort of writing competition. No worries! Visit the message boards for unofficial mini-challenges to tide you over until the real Challenge begins again. Besides keeping you disciplined and challenged in your writing, mini challenges are a lot of fun! OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF FAITHWRITERS

In keeping with the Christmas theme, this month, I asked FaithWriters this question:

What is your favorite Christmas Carol?

Here are some of their answers:

"It's difficult to choose just one, but I think I'd go with What Child is This?. The lyrics contain so much of the Gospel message, and the tune of Greensleeves is such a lovely, haunting melody." – Rick Hoomis

"Maybe it's so dear to me because it's the first Christmas song I learned to play on the piano, but I love SILENT NIGHT." – Angela M. Baker-Bridge

"Go tell it on the mountain because that is the message then and for Christians today. We need to tell it until all people hear." – Darlene Hight

"They are all my favorites, but "O Holy Night" gives me goosebumps and the lyrics can bring me to tears. When the singer hits that last high note, I really want to "fall on my knees'." – Catrina Bradley

"This year it's "Jingle Bells," because this is the only Christmas song my two-year-old can sing. It's quite fun to listen to him." – Stephanie Craig

AND THAT WRAPS UP THE FINAL NEWSLETTER OF 2008!

DURING THE BUSY HOLIDAYS, REMEMBER THE REASON FOR THE SEASON AND TAKE SOME TIME TO WRITE FOR THE KINGDOM!

WE, AT FAITHWRITERS, WANT TO WISH YOU A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BLESSED NEW YEAR!
