"And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us." Hebrews 12:1b (NLT)
Did you watch the 2008 summer Olympics that were held in Beijing last month? If so, you were among the millions of us who tuned in to see USA's Michael Phelps take the record for most gold medals won at a single Olympics. We cheered our countries on as they tumbled and balanced, dove off high platforms, rowed and pedaled their little hearts out, and raced towards that finish line.
So what about your race? The one God has set before you? Are you running it with passion? Determination? Endurance? I sure am glad that in life's race, we don't need to "beat out the competition." All we need to do is run our own race – that God has set before us - to the best of our individual ability. And the gold is ours!
Be sure to check out the "Out of the Mouths of FaithWriters" section at the bottom of this newsletter for some of our members' favorite Olympic events.

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF FAITHWRITERS
In keeping with the Olympic theme, I asked FaithWriters members the following question:
What is your favorite Olympic sport, and why?
Here's what some of them had to say:
"SWIMMING!!! Mostly because my father was an alternate for the 1960 Rome games for Great Britain. He taught me how to swim, and if South Africa had been allowed into the Olympics in the 1980s I might have been a contender for the backstroke. It is bittersweet for me." – Cori Smelker
"The one sport that grips me is the diving.... I'm always quite convinced they're going to go up and then come down on that board and smash themselves to bits. I can watch the same dive ten times and feel just as stressed that they MIGHT injure themselves.
I can't bear to watch; but I can't bear not to either." – Christine Miles
"For the summer Olympics it is undoubtedly archery. I have personally tried my hand at the bow many times, yet the skill of a true archer to hit the target with such consistent accuracy is out of this world." – Patrick Whalen
"My favorite is track and field, especially the sprints, which were my own specialty, way back when." – Debbie Engle
"Both women's and men's gymnastics have captivated our household this year, especially the baby girls. At 20 months, they are mesmerized by the rolling and kicking; they stand next to the couch lifting their little legs trying to mock the athletes...so cute." – Michele Roach
This September, I challenge you to run your race with enthusiasm and endurance. And when it comes to your writing, do everything you can to perform to the best of your ability. When you do, you'll receive a medal far better than any Olympic gold!
