FaithWriters.com news and information for the write-brained Christian!
"With each of you we were like a father with his child, holding your hand, whispering encouragement, showing you step-by-step how to live well before God, who called us into his own kingdom, into this delightful life." (1 Thessalonians 2:11, 12)
Fathers are so important, aren't they? If you have a loving dad, you are indeed blessed. This June, as we celebrate Father's Day, may you cherish all of the great memories you have of your dad. And if you are a father, go make some wonderful memories of your own for your kids to look back fondly on when they're older.
Be sure to read this month's "Out of the Mouths of FaithWriters" at the end of this newsletter, as a few of our members share some of the best memories they have of their fathers.
FAITHWRITERS 500 PERK
In 2007, FaithWriters.com introduced the PAGE TURNER contest. This contest was created exclusively for FaithWriters 500 members and has turned out to be one of the 500's most fun (and lucrative) benefits.
While last year's focus was on fiction (view list of winners here: http://www.faithwriters.com/page-turner-winners2007.php), this year, the PAGE TURNER focus is on NON-FICTION. Enter the first chapter of your non-fiction manuscript, along with a brief synopsis of the entire projected book by September 1st. Although technical proficiency and creativity will be considered, the main ingredient the judges are looking for is that special page turning quality.
So if you've been considering becoming a FaithWriters 500 member, and you have an idea for, or have started writing, a non-fiction book, NOW is definitely the time to sign up. You still have three months to make that first chapter shine!
The winner and runners up will be announced on December 1, 2008. The grand prize package includes FREE editing of your book (up to 400 pages), FREE publicity and marketing, press releases, a beautiful plaque, and a hefty chunk of cash!
For more information, visit the PAGE TURNER CONTEST PAGE here: http://www.faithwriters.com/page-turner.php
But remember, you must be a FaithWriters 500 member to qualify. Visit http://www.faithwriters.com/myaccount/donations-from-members.php for more information and to check out all of the additional benefits you'll receive with your 500 membership.
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
Do you love the Writing Challenge? Love to read? Have you placed at least once in the Editor's Choice Top Ten OR placed at least twice in level 3 or higher (includes Highly Commended)?
If so, we need you!
Consider becoming a Writing Challenge judge, where you can not only play a vital part in who takes those coveted top ten spots, but you will also be a huge blessing by giving back to FaithWriters.com in this way. The truth is The Challenge would not exist without the help of every one of our faithful volunteers!
One week per quarter is all we ask. Although you may not enter The Challenge on the week you judge, you'll still have nine whole weeks to submit an entry! We'll provide you with all the information you need for judging and you can even practice a bit before your official judging week begins. It's simple, fun, and so rewarding!
If you would like further details on serving as a Writing Challenge judge, or have any questions on how the process works, visit this thread on the message boards: http://www.faithwriters.com/Boards/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19781
Thanks in advance for your help!
We're happy to report that the FaithWriters Down Under conference, held in Australia on May 24th, was a huge success! The speakers were inspiring and motivational, the teaching invaluable, and the friendships and bonds that came out of it were nothing short of amazing.
The message boards are buzzing with all of the details, including many photos of the event. To check out the exciting details, click here: http://www.faithwriters.com/Boards/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=62
Thanks to all who attended. We hope you were blessed and refreshed!
Unfortunately, this year's U.S. conference was cancelled, but plans for a 2009 conference are already in the works. Stay tuned for further details…
OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF FAITHWRITERS
In honor of Father's Day, I asked the following question:
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY ABOUT YOUR DAD?
Here's what some of our FaithWriters members had to say:
"Dad used to lift Mum onto the top of the fridge freezer unit and leave her there, just for fun. And he'd take us out scrounging in rubbish bins for recyclable bottles so we could have some money of our own. (The two memories are not related!)" Christine Miles
"Dad brought "treats" to us in his lunchbox a couple of times a month when he came home from work. Treats like candy bars and bubble gum (things we normally didn't get); his smile was a mile wide as he watched us discover the goodies." – Dee Yoder
"One of my favorite memories of Dad was sitting in church, on his lap during the singing, leaning my head on his chest, hearing his bass voice in my ear as he sang, or at home watching Hee Haw, or The Statler Brothers." – Shari Armstrong
"My favorite memory of my dad was lying on his bed with him, crying together, mourning the death of my mom. (I was almost seven) I don't think I ever felt closer to him than I did that morning." – Joanne Sher
"I'm thankful for a Dad who was a good Christian and a hard worker. He taught me how to me a man, not so much by words, but by action. He made sure we were in Church when the doors were open. He didn't send us, he was with us." – Clarence "Sonny" White
And that wraps up the June issue of the FaithWriters newsletter. Remember…this month, volunteer to act as Writing Challenge judge! Join the FaithWriters 500 and enter the 2008 Page Turner contest! Go hug your dad! And, most importantly, give thanks to your heavenly Father for being everything you need Him to be!
Oh…and keep writing for the Kingdom!
