I am a translator, poet and part-time civil servant living in Birmingham, England, and have a longstanding interest in foreign languages and other cultures and in translating and writing poetry. I began writing poems based on the Bible over 25 years ago, with a collection inspired by Jesus’s parables – two of these poems were published in The Christian Herald in 1988 and 1989, and two more have recently appeared in my local church magazine. In 1988 my acrostic version of Proverbs 31:10-31 (itself an acrostic poem in the original Hebrew) was published in the Church News and I completed a long poem based on the Exodus. Between 1989 and 2008 I wrote a 4,500-line poem in rhyming couplets on the life of King David. My Bible-based poems, like my translations, are essentially ‘labours of love’, and I do not see them as a commercial or professional activity. On the other hand, I would like as many interested people as possible to be able to read my work and to comment on it if they wish to do so, and for this reason I am describing my posted work as "for sale". I am excited to have discovered and joined FaithWriters and to have the opportunity to read the diverse work of other members and to give and receive comments and encouragement. I am posting the following poetry on the FaithWriters website:
Parables (38 poems based on Jesus’s parables);
The Perfect Wife (an acrostic version of Proverbs 31:10-31);
The First Nine Plagues (the first section of my poem The Exodus); and
David (a complete verse biography of King David).
I would very much welcome any comments from fellow-Christians, and any suggestions or requests regarding the use or publication of my work, direct to firstname.lastname@example.org
