From a bare-foot, 6 year old Ozark Foothills farm boy who was blessed by a first grade teacher that convinced me that "YOU CAN", to officer of a Memphis bank at age 22, to president of a small town bank at 32, to Senior Lending Officer of a large Little Rock bank, to curing "ailing" small banks. That made for an exciting 46-year career in banking with real estate as a sideline.
Operating a one-man real estate brokerage where I represent homebuyer’s exclusively which is a joy to this 79 year old. Most brokers try to fairly represent both sides of a home sale transaction, an impossible exercise that is much like my wife filing a contested divorce action followed by me hiring her attorney to “represent me”.
All that with no college degree but constant study through industry related schools until age 62 that resulted in the equivalent of a degree from a business school.
Born in the depths of the Great Depression, I am grateful that my very poor small-farm parents were not pro-choice-death; else, I would not be here since they could ill afford another child. During my early years, mother was the sole caregiver for her mother who was dying an excruciation death by cancer. We had no phone, automobile, running water and luxuries but we cherished each other and was grateful to God for clothing and food (mostly home grown or bartered). People who had no food or warm clothing were the poor. I did not realize that we were poor until President Johnson advised us.
Married at age 18. Married to the same sweet lady 61 years later. Grandpa at 39. GreatGrandpa at 63.
Surrendered my life and became a truly-born-again-child-of-God (study John 3) at age 13. All that was required was for me to repent and pray, “God be merciful to me a sinner.” (Luke 16:13) Baptist deacon at 26. Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. Student of God's Word for 70+ years. Enjoy sharing how Jesus loved me, pursued me and saved my inner-man, my spirit, resulting in being eager for Him to Rapture me into the presence of all of the truly-born-again-children-of-God at any moment or welcome me into the presence of God upon my impending death. I am eager for either event.
I do NOT claim to be a Christian since I define that as being Christ-like. That word is miss-used and abused by many professed “Christians” and by the freethinking media.
I enjoy the study of God’s Word and the commentary of other thinkers. I enjoy discussing specific points of interpretation with thinkers whose ideas differ.
I live 3 miles into the picturesque rolling foothills of the Ozarks that light up each Fall with colors on a pallet that only God could paint. Upon semi-retirement, we built a new home next door to my 93-year-old mother-in-law. At age 106, she stepped into the arms of Jesus.
Our son, Tim is Senior Attorney to the Arkansas Election Commission. He has two un-married sons. Our daughter, Debbie Baker, has two children and three GRANDchildren. She is in Hospice since she is terminally ill with seven abdominal cancers.
In addition to expounding on my understanding of God’s Word, my writing will include episodes from my life, my banking career and from experiences with powerful Arkansas political figures like Bill and Hillary Clinton, Orval Faubus, Winthrop Rockefeller, Dale Bumpers, David Pryor, Wilbur Mills, etc. r4-2-13
