 About Self
Kathleen Trissel felt a strong call into missions in 1999 while reading Dietrich Bonhoefferís book, The Cost of Discipleship. She describes it as a conviction to forsake all to follow Christ. The intensity of the call grew until, in 2000, she quit her job, sold her home, and went to seminary for a semester. Missionary trips to Kosovo and Taiwan, however, revealed that Godís call for her was not overseas. Godís call to Kathleen was as a literary missionary. She holds a B.A. in English and Psychology and an M.A. in Counseling and Human Development. She is a member of First Friends Church in Canton OH. Her personal mission statement and passion are: To write Godís answer of hope, encouragement, salvation, love, gentleness, compassion, mercy, and grace as a literary missionary. To reach those who do not know Christ with the gospel, and encourage growth in a love relationship with Jesus. To build up the body of Christ through encouragement, challenge, and walking as a fellow traveler. To live out the promise God gave me years ago about my writing in Psalm 40:2-3: He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD. Through the vehicle of writing, my passion is to bring the song of salvation to those who donít know Christ, and to bring a song of praise and adoration to the hearts of believers, in a way that will spur them on in the faith, and in growing in Christ likeness. I desire, above all, to be real and transparent in my writing. I know that people connect with a genuine heart, which means being honest about the struggles, pain, and suffering of this life. I am convinced of the Lordís word in Psalm 51:6, where God desires truth in the inner pats, even if it means standing bare before the Lord in raw honesty and trust. Ministry Experience includes: Kathleen is part of a ministry team with Daughters of Destiny, a ministry that reaches into womenís prisons across the United States. She has written articles for the Daughters Journal, and is a national speaker. Kathleen is a published freelance writer with publication credits that include: the Inside Journal, Psychology for Living, Breakthrough Intercessor, The Lookout, Alive Now, and Light and Life Magazine. She also served as Editor for the Daughterís Journal. She has led a worship guitar life group at church, and often leads worship in a small group Bible study.
