This poem goes out to all those who have tried to run from their destiny in God. May your legs grow tired, your strength slowly wane and may you let the Good Shepherd gather you in his arms once again.
The battle is over, my energy spent
wasted on notions all twisted and bent
They've gotten me nowhere, just deeper in sin
dimming the light that once shone from within
The battle is over, I give up the fight
I'll shun the wrong path, run to the right
I can no longer ignore your small voice inside
There's nowhere to run and nowhere to hide
The battle is over, my feet cannot stand
I traded the rock for deep, sinking sand
Why did I think I could do this alone?
Like the prodigal son, it's time to go home
The battle is over, your victory sure
In the winter of sin, your love remained pure
How can you be so patient and kind?
To this writer, it has no reason or rhyme
The battle is over, I lay down my sword
fighting was futile, I gained no reward
The more that I ran, the more you pursued
Weary and broken, Lord, I am subdued
The battle is over, collect your fair due
How could I think I could live without you?
Made from the likeness of your precious face
Destined to rule, not fall in disgrace
The battle is over, I now understand
More than ever before, I need your firm hand
I'll steady my feet, raise my eyes up above
the battle is over, I receive all your love
