This is an assignment in meter given by Jan Ackerson on the message boards.
I don't consider myself a poet, but would like to expand my talents to cover many genres.
I prayed the prayers led by the priest,
Unknown to me were they.
Commitment depths were not perceived,
Thoí much words I did say.
Then revelation came to me,
How coarse I had become.
With heart in hand, I come to Thee,
Untempered I will run!
Iíve come to You in lonely fear,
With hardness in my heart.
Please help unstick this broken gear,
And softness do impart.
In stillness I do come, dear LORD,
And wait alone for You.
My soul dismissed, I canít afford,
Nor can I face my due.
"Dear heart rejoice! Come meet your King!
Whose love for youís so strong,
Through all of heavín your cries did ring
To Him as some sweet song."
And in response to all my tears
My King did come so fast;
Relieved my soul of all its fears
And placed them in the past.
I thank You LORD for all Youíve done,
In gratitude I pray.
With softened heart I now do come,
Devoted to You this day.
