A couple of weeks ago I was watching a movie with a friend, and there was a part in the movie that struck me. It wasn’t some deep statement or intense battle scene but a simple pause. The part was monumental because the man the movie was centered around was a fighter and competitor who did not like to loose. And due to his pride and poor decisions he ran away from home and ended up planting rice in some small town far from his home. Due to his nature as a competitor he was trying to do it faster then everyone else not paying any attention to the quality of his work. Then a breeze kicked up and everyone stopped working; they stood up, raised there arms, closed their eyes, and took a deep breath. As soon as the breeze faded they went back to work. The whole time they were enjoying the breeze the competitor used it as an opportunity to get even more ahead. As I saw him attempting to take advantage of his “opportunity” to get ahead I saw us, our generation missing the most precious moments of our life just so we can catch a break.
I was standing outside my office the other day when a breeze emerged; I stopped, closed my eyes, absorbed the warm sun upon my face, and just breathed for a minute. The pause only lasted a couple minutes but strengthened my spirit for the remainder of the day. I don’t want that to be us, to be so caught up in everything we are doing that we miss the precious moments we have. So take a minute or two today and just breathe, enjoy what you have and celebrate the breath of life.
