One holy night, as the earth
grew quiet and still,
Calm breezes slipped down
a tall, slender hill. . .
Spilling on the rich,
green valleys below,
Dancing and skipping
through soft pasture-grass
Where small, drowsy sheep
nestled quietly low,
Giving no thought to
the Heavenly-Brass
In jubilant symphony
about to show.

The Keepers of sheep
watched in the fields,
Sheltering their eyes
with shepherd-robe shields,
As the glorious Starburst
dropped Heavenly Light,
Pouring it over
the broad pieces of land,
Sending forth to earth
with a giantís might
Amazing sweet Love
from Godís Angel-Band
Announcing the birth
of a babe in the night.

Led by the Light,the shepherds
quickened their pace
to Bethlehemís stable
to witness Godís Grace.
Standing in straw
by a manger of hay,
Perceiving the Babe,
God's sweet Gift from Above,
Feeling the Hope
of the world where He lay,
Shepherds knelt down
in the presence of Love,
Filling themselves
with God's brilliant joy-ray.

In the music of the night,
lifting their voices,
Joining in the song
of Angelic-Rejoices,
Spreading peace on earth,
good will from Above.
In the beauty of the melody,
they knelt to pray.
Giving glory to God
for the Gift of His Love Ė
A King of All Kings
in a bed made of hay!
