This is supposed to represent three special seasons of my life, that I believe are special and should not be forgotten. (1) childhood innocence (2) The age of spiritual awakening (3) New life in Christ and discipleship. I hope that is what you get from this.
God, help me not to forget
God, help me not to forget,
What it was like when I was boy;
Running, and strumming, and drumming,
My toys; humming with joy, not at all coy
But alive, with a drive to thrive and enjoy
All of the things a boy should enjoy.
Playing marbles to win, and racing toy cars,
Making paper army-men, and flying missions to Mars.
God help me not to forget,
What it was like, when I was young and free;
Knowing, and showing, and growing up,
Like a tree, longing to see,
Not running to flee, but hoping to
Be, the man that Jesus called me to be.
Preaching the truth to the lost, and touching the needs
Reaching out at all cost, and planting eternity seeds
God help me not to forget,
What it was like, when you gave me a new start;
The pounding- so astounding, while surrounding
My heart, filtering out sin, molding me again,
Filling my soul so wholly with in; and then
Equipping me with the tools to believe
Keeping you Word in my face, and praying for all men
Fighting hard the good race, and keeping clean from all sin
God help me not to forget…
