It is amazing how fast time seems to go by. Obviously every minute is still equal to 60 seconds, every hour is equal to 60 minutes and there are still 24 hours in a day, 7 days a week and 52 weeks in a year. But all of us say "how fast time seems to go by." So what are we saying? What do we mean?
I believe that the average American adult is so busy achieving success in the work place and ensuring that little Johnny and Susie have every possible advantage that we don't take time to relax, unwind and just enjoy being alive.
Please don't misunderstand me. There is nothing wrong with desiring to be successful in the corporate world. There is nothing wrong with wanting little Johnny and Susie to have the advantages they need to excel in school and sports. But when these things take precedence over our time with our family, over our health and over our relaxation and unwind time, then we need to take a look at our priorities.
Is it more important to be at the office dinner party than at home spending quality time with your family?
Is that project with its looming deadline more important than your health and peace of mind?
We all know that medical research has proven that stress can cause high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes among other medical problems. But did you know that stress is now attributed to causing some types of cancer? CANCER!! If nothing slows you down, maybe that should.
So the next time you hear yourself say "my how time flies" stop and think about what you just said. Maybe it's a sign you need to slow down!
