Went the shepherd to find His sheep
The one who had gone astray
Through winter's cold and summer's heat
He searched until He found
He looked in places wild and barren
In dens of deepest sin
He looked in other pastures
To see if His sheep was wandering there
At last He found His own lost sheep where it should not have been.
Then to that poor, lost, wandering sheep
He gently said, “Come home”
He held out His arms and enfolded the one
Who had wandered from the fold.
Then gently and lovingly carried him back
To rest within the fold.
We must go to our lost and wandering brothers
And gently restore them with love.
We must look in places where we would never go
Unless we are seeking the lost;
And when at last we see them
In some place they should not be
We must hold out our arms and lovingly say
“Come home, and rest within the fold.”
The story of the shepherd and the wandering sheep is the story of restoration. Do it before they lead the lambs (new Christians) astray.
