Adventures of Ron Huckelberry...#14 Mom takes the Cub Scouts to the mountain

Mom takes the Cub Scouts to the mountain cabin

Ron is about nine. Even though his mom works, she is also the Den Mother for Ronís Cub Scout den.

Ronís parents have a wood cabin in the mountain area not too far from their home in Huntsville. Ron and family are often there on the weekends. Mom always wants to expose Ron to new ideas and adventures and she wants to take the Cubs to the cabin for a little grill party.

Dad insures that all of the necessary items are in the cabin and now mom is ready to take the Cubs camping. This day there will be four cars hauling 14 boys to the cabin. Mon bought an old hand crank siren at a local flea market and it is still lying on the floor board of the back seat.

When the boys load into the car they immediately see the siren and ask about it. Ron then asks mom if she will let them attach it to the car door and make some noise. She agrees. She helps secure the siren to the right side door. Ron easily turns the crank as they drove.

Mom knows it isn't allowed to use a siren, but gives the OK anyway. Just as they leave the city-limits, Ron begins to crank out some bad-time noise. The four cars are behind one another as Mom leads the way. Very soon we heard another siren. This time it is the local police.

Everyone pulled over to the side of the road as the police car parks in front of mom. The policeman walks to Momís window. He smils as he recognizes her. ďMay I ask what you guys are doing?Ē he asks.

Mom explains. He shakes his head. ďLook, I see the fun of all of this. To make it look better, Iíll escort your group to the cabin. In fact, Iíll use my siren some too.Ē

So it was. Mom and her Cubs are escorted by the local police to a grill party. Everyone thinks this is real cool.
