TITLE: The Meat and the Potatoes

The "meat and the potatoes," the Holy food of God, comes with time spent with Him first thing in the day, letting Him stoke the fires of your heart for Him, filling you with the Holy Spirit to keep tuned to Him all day. And by "time," I mean T-I-M-E!
The Meat and the Potatoes 4/5/08

I get up in the morning
With a lukewarm thermostat,
And God starts the fire burning
To a stoking furnace blast.

I can always count on Him
To rev the engines high,
As He takes me by the hand
With His awesome Holy Might.

It does not take Him long
To make me forget the night,
Put Him in the middle
Of my daily round in sight.

He becomes my burning bush
In the center of my heart,
And I know the day is begun
The right way from the start.

The time we spend together
Is the meat and the potatoes
Of the Holy food that's given
To fight off all my foes.

We plan the day together,
Knowing that at anytime He's free,
To break in and interrupt,
To ask anything of me.

I ask Him for His Providence,
As I go about my day.
He asks for me to do my best
In each and every way.

I watch and listen closely,
For the Master's hand or word,
As my daily round goes on about
For Him to be seen or heard.

If I catch a glimpse of Him,
Or hear that still, small voice,
For sure, I'll stop right in my tracks,
And try to make the right choice.

His will is all I'm after,
From dawn to setting of the sun,
Because from the break of morning,
My heart He's already won.
