Outside of Myself
Part I of II Ė The Beginning
By Ricky Flowers

I feel Iím just a traveler here
From where I do not know
Soaring through the air
Unsure of where to go

I feel so strange and out of place
In search of purpose clear
I call upon the Holy One
But His voice I cannot hear

Itís as if Iím standing outside yourself
Watching as life goes by
Many times I want to laugh
And many times I want to cry

Some days my loneliness is crippling
Much weighs heavy on my mind
I ask myself, is this all there is
Or am I just to blind

To blind to see the reason
The Father sent me here
To numb to feel the presence
Even when He is near

I see my life unfolding
Doors open and then they close
Where they would have led
Only God really knows

Twice I walked right through the door
Just to see where it might go
But just across the threshold
My mind said simply, NO

Go back young man thereís nothing here
For someone such as you
What makes you think thereís anything
On this side for you to do

What makes you think you have the right?
To be successful in this life
What would you do without the pain?
The sorrow and the strife

So I bow my head and turn around
I return to the other side
I wait to hear the closing door
Once again my mind has lied

As I watch myself I see the pain
As it sweeps across my face
Once again a failure
Another fall from grace

I feel myself begin to move
Guided by an unseen hand
No longer can I see myself
Iím swept to another land

I hear nothing but the wind
I feel nothing but the sun
Deep inside an uneasy feeling
That this journeyís just begun

Suddenly I find myself
On a hilltop far away
A place I have never been
Never seen until this day

A voice soft and low
Said Iíve brought you to this place
So you can hear my voice
So you can look upon my face

I brought you hear my son
So that you can know Iím real
So you know that Iím not finished
You have yet begun to heal

Be still for just a moment
Listen to what I say
For there is much to show you
So that you can find your way
