TITLE: 6FS#6-This Bastard Sword

I've met my father three times. The first time happened when I was sixteen. When I was sitting home alone at age thirteen, I was listening to Eddie Vetter from Pearl Jam sing a little song called "Alive." (Those of you who are familiar with those lyrics can appreciate the power of the statement I just made. Those of you who aren't might benefit from a bit of cross-research.) Ever since then, I have felt a weight upon my heart to use my gift of song to encourage other fatherless youths that they DO have a father who is always with them, strengthening them every step of the way. Again, I'm wondering if this song gets anybody PUMPED! Can you feel it in your bones?

STRAIGHT THROUGH THE LIPS OF A BASTARD
WHO CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND THE TIMES
HE’S EVEN SEEN HIS FATHER’S FAAAAACE!
SRAIGHT FROM THE HEART OF A CHILD
FORCED TO GROW UP IN THE WIIIIIIIILD!
I’M GONNA’ RISE ABOVE THIS DISGRACE!

THIS BASTARD SWORD WILL CUT THROUGH!
I MAKE THIS PROMISE TO YOU!
I’M CUTTIN’ UP! AND WHEN I DO
I’M CUTTIN’ A PATH FOR MY BROTHERS TOO!

(What kind of world are we living in?) Fathers forget their own sons they begat!
(What kind of place are we living in?) You weren’t there to answer these questions, MY DAD!
(What kind of times are we living in?) Looking back on it now, I’m kind of glad!
(What kind of space are we living in?) You might’ve drifted me farther away from LAND!

The only father that I ever had to emulate…
Was my Creator, my Lord and Savior, Redeemer of my faith!

I’M SINKIN’ IN! AND WHEN I DO
I’M SINKIN’ ONE FOR MY BROTHERS TOO!

(What kind of world are we living in?) Fathers work fourteen hours a day!
(This tragedy never occurred to me.) I didn’t HAVE A DAD ANYWAY!
(But now that I’m older and wiser) I keep seeing this cycle repeat!
(I see the symptoms of sickness…) That system is BROKEN, DON’T YOU SEE?
(What do you say to your children…) When you’re tucking them in at night?
(Do you tell them that you love them?) Or do you just leave it to your wife?
(As I am growing older and…) Looking in the mirror!
(Can I really say my future’s…) Looking any clearer?

Not if I lead by the same example that my father lead…
I want to raise my children right with Jesus before I’m dead!

Know you and I are blessed… no matter what they say we are.
We have a clearer focus… All we have is the North Star.
Our Father didn’t leave us… like everybody else says he did.
He gave us the largest family… of brothers and sisters under Him!

Know you and I are blessed… no matter how they look at us.
We have been tried and tested… Somehow He knew we’d rise above.
You ask, “Why were we made to… live this life without a father?”
We’ve been directly connected to… our father, God and one another!

Why were we made to be so hard? Why were we trained to cope so well?
What kind of children are we meant to guard From the very fires of Hell?
Do you know what they’re calling us? They say we’re “Generation Why?”
I think we’re building a nation… Of inspiration under God’s sky!

What kind of world are we living in? What kind of world is it you can see?
What kind of world are we living in? One day it will belong to you and me!
What kind of world are we living in? What kind of question is that to ask?
What kind of world are we living in? The kind that will soon be in the PAST!

What kind of world are we living in? The kind that I AM AT WAR WITH!
What kind of times are we living in? The kind that I WILL NOT FORFEIT!
What kind of place are we living in? ‘Cause I am THROUGH PLAYING GAMES!
Straight through the LIPS OF THIS BASTARD!
THE KIND OF WORLD I AM GOING TO CHANGE!

STRAIGHT THROUGH THE LIPS OF A BASTARD
WHO CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND THE TIMES
HE’S EVEN SEEN HIS FATHER’S FAAAAACE!
STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART OF A CHILD
FORCED TO GROW UP IN THE WIIIIIIIILD!
I’M MAKING SOMETHING FROM ALL THIS DISGRACE!

THIS BASTARD SWORD WILL CUT THROUGH!
I MAKE THIS PROMISE TO YOU!
I’M BRINGIN’ TRUTH! AND WHEN I DO
I’M BRINGIN’ MY BROTHERS WITH ME!
THIS BASTARD SWORD WILL CUT THROUGH!
I MAKE THIS PROMISE TO YOU!
I’LL SHOCK THE WORLD! AND WHEN I DO
THEN THE REST IS UP TO YOU!
