Thank you to everyone who critiqued my poem here. It is greatly appreciated!
The sky turned black the day my savior died
Mary’s tears fell, as hell’s gates opened wide
And though He asked that the cup be taken away
God’s perfect plan was in motion that day.
So the man who was blameless,
who lived without sin.
was torn from His father,
as He obediently walked in.
Pain in His body. Despair in His soul
Such loneliness He bore, that I might be whole.
He suffered the punishment, the guilt,
and the shame
for the sins I’ve committed – too many to name.
He went all alone on that desolate day
and faced pure evil
While the Holy One turned away.
For God did not go where He sent His Son -
It was the only way for the battle to be won.
So my Savior, my Jesus, bore all my disgrace
That in my eternity
I might see God’s face.
