I wrote this poem after a Tuesday night Bible study going through John 5. Though in the latter half of chapter 5 the pharisees dont actually voice these thoughts, I saw them as implied and had fun creating a rhyming diologue. Enjoy
Jesus you speak blasphemy
And though you raise the dead
We think this “Son of God” stuff
Is all just in your head
We know about the Scriptures
And everything they say
We know all about G*d
So get out of our way
We could quote to you the good book
And we have our “Th. D’s”
You should be humbled to know
You’re in the midst of Pharisees
I don’t need man to confirm Me
But Johnny did just that
The words of John the Baptist
Well, simply put they’re fact
You’ll worship Elvis Presley
Or Angelina Joe Lee
But when your God becomes a Man
You fail to worship Me
I know well the Father
Him and I are One
For such smart people you just can’t grasp
That I’m indeed His Son
Look at the works that I have done
They’re very mighty deeds
If 5,000 stood before you
How many could you feed?
I’ve given sight to the blind
And I’ve even raised the dead
I’m God himself in the flesh
So get that through your heads
Moses he spoke of Me
You’ll read Me in his books
But for eternal life
To Me you will not look
Pharisees too will stand before Me
On the Judgment Day
But against you sinners
Ill have nothing to say
Moses will accuse you
In him you’ve set your hope
Despite all of the works you’ve done
You’ll still go up in smoke
‘Cause good deeds cannot save you
That’s what you fail to grasp
To obtain eternal life
All you need to do is ask
Salvation will be found
Through my grace alone
Out of My abundant love
For all sins I will atone
