I Thee Wed
With this cross, I thee wed
A crown of thorns upon my head.
I walk for you up Golgotha’s long aisle
And surrender my life in love’s self-denial
That I may become your spotless Bridegroom.
With this cross, I thee wed
A veil of sin worn o’er your head.
You, my love wait until I reach Calvary’s peak
To drive nails into the hands and feet
Of me, your beloved, still your death doth I consume.
With this cross, I thee wed
I see you, my love, now humbly bow your head.
Yet I must leave you for the gates of hell
And invite to the wedding those also who fell
Far from this King who now goes to His tomb.
With this cross, I thee wed
I raise myself from out of the dead.
For to claim each one as my bride
Now flesh of my flesh and side of my side
So to let my creation’s sacred ceremony resume.
With this cross, you two wed
I listen to your every word said
Before my Father you a covenant make
To cleave one to another, in my cross you partake
So two may die and rise as one in the hallowed bridal room.
With this cross, you two me wed
For two by two one is made for the head,
One sacred body of my bride
Where at last my heart wilt for eternity reside
In the wedded one body who art in love with her Groom.
