The basis of this poem is Isaiah 61:1-3. I remember the first time I read this and realized I am one of those oaks!
I am an oak of righteousness
Planted by the Lord
To display His splendor
To proclaim His word.
Spiritually impoverished
Was I before He came
Feeding me the good news
Now I'm not the same
I am an oak of righteousness
Planted by the Lord
To display His splendor
To proclaim His word.
Brokenhearted, weak and weary
That was what I used to be
'Til He came to bind my heart up
"Til He came to set me free
I am an oak of righteousness
Planted by the Lord
To display His splendor
To proclaim His word.
Spiritually blind-in darkness
"Til He came to shine His light
Now growing in His grace and mercy
Planting roots that give me might
I am an oak of righteousness
Planted by the Lord
To display His splendor
To proclaim His word.
He's given me a crown of beauty
Where only ashes used to be
Branching out to share with others
All that He has done for me
He's made me glad,
No longer mourning;
Praising Him as I should be
For that is why I was created;
That is what He meant for me
His splendor now displayed in my life
I've been transformed and made anew
And finally finding peace and joy
In doing what I'm made to do
I am an oak of righteousness
Planted by the Lord
To diplay His splendor
To proclaim His word.
