1) Post your first piece.

2) You must then critique the work of another member to post another piece yourself.

I wrote this poem for a college course
Cling to the Cross 1

One day, you talked with your best friend
About stories on the TV news
Fathers killing their own children
Teens teaching young kids to do drugs
Horrified your thoughts quickly turn
Turn to one bible prophecy
One prophesy concerning the end
The end and the frozen desert
The frozen desert of man’s heart 2

In the morning, you wake changed, new
New in mind and heart vertical
Vertical in focus suddenly
A cute guy was no longer worth
No longer worth space on your walls
No longer worth misrepresenting
Misrepresenting your allegiance
Suggesting worldly allegiance3
Not allegiance to Him you love

At church, the sermon challenged you
Challenged you to remove your hand
From dear friends who would hinder you
Hinder you from moving closer
Moving closer to Him you claim
To love as wives love their husband
You feel a bit like a shy youngster
A shy youngster starting preschool
You look at your stuffed lamb and God4
Tells you to cling—cling to the cross.

Cling to the cross when many don’t
Understand your new direction
Your yen to imbibe all of me
Launch yourself into my service
Into absolute dependence
On Me, My promise, My love
When yanks on your heart make you shake
Or freeze live but a mannequin
Cling to the cross and move again
