This poem is largely inspired by Isaiah 53. It is a bit lengthy but I would sincerely appreciate any critiques. Thanks. Crista
It Pleased the Lord

It pleased the Lord to bruise Him
Isaiah did prophesy
To atone a world condemned
Sacrificial Lamb must die
Born with beasts in Bethlehem
Word of God as Babe did cry

It pleased the Lord to bruise Him

As a man our Savior chose
To fulfill salvation’s plan
In favor with God He grows
Despised and denied by man
Drinking our cup of sorrows
Served from His own Father’s hand

It pleased the Lord to bruise Him

Mocked by the unbelieving
Even scourged for all mankind
Those stripes promised the healing
Of our body, heart, and mind
Our healing - His suffering
For eternity entwined

It pleased the Lord to bruise Him

Falsely accused - He’s silent
Like a lamb devoured as prey
For our peace - His chastisement
Providing the only way
Unto death - obedient
But we all, as sheep, have strayed

It pleased the Lord to bruise Him

We hide from Him our faces
Lest perhaps we see our own
And glimpse into dark places
At the wickedness we’ve sown
Hiding in shadows from grace
And the peace we could have known

It pleased the Lord to bruise Him

Wounds of transgressions’ blow
Piercing His hands and His feet
Guilt offering’s blood did flow
Cleansing all those who believe
Satisfied by anguished soul
Our salvation is complete

It pleased the Lord to bruise Him

Crushed as myrrh for burial
Messiah who had no sin
Golgatha - place of the skull
Songs of the redeemed begin
Resurrection life in full
For those who are born again

It pleased the Lord to bruise Him

It pleased the Lord to bruise you
Child, do not be terrified
A fiery trial you pass through
Until you are fully tried
Tribulation God foreknew
To present you purified

It pleased the Lord to bruise you
