Thoughts following the loss of a child.
The Bedroom
I remember hearing
of mothers
keeping the bedroom exactly as it was found;
the day after the mother’s world ended.
The bed made or unmade,
stuffed animals in a row.
Books
awards
all left just as the day her child flew to heaven.
And then I became that mother.
I walked into the bedroom one more time only…
I never walked into her bedroom again.
I moved out of the house.
She was not there anymore.
She was not coming back.
She did
not
need
the bedroom anymore
or the animals
or books
Her awards went with her and became truly golden.
And now
God’s clouds are her pillow.
God’s skies are her sheets.
God’s wings are her blanket.
God’s love is her light in the morning.
and at noon
and at night.
