Looking for a general critque on form and style as well as content specifically if you, the reader, catches the connection to the color and then to the item... did you read it like a sentence - from one line to the next? Would it be better written if I put the " [insert color] of" before each item? Also the text box deletes formatting - I had each each line of the color verses indented except the first line. Thank you!
The Colors of Haiti

Hello, my name is Esperanta
These are the colors of my home
Full of hope, beauty and suffering
Full of life, laughter and loss
This is Haiti, the home that I love.

Haiti is the color red
Tomatoes on sale at the market
Bright costumes of the Carnival
Blood of Haitiís brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers
That too often runs in the street.

Haiti is the color blue
Sky stretching from Cap-Haitien to Port-au-Prince
Sparkling ocean waters all around
Helmets on the soldiers heads who are to keep the peace
But too often fail in their task.

Haiti is the color black
Skin of mine, smooth and dark and beautiful
Skin of my Haitian brothers and sisters
Skin that is made in the image of God
But so often used as an excuse to use and abuse.

Haiti is the color green
Palm trees towering above my home.
Bananas growing all around
Lemons so beautiful yet bittersweet
so much like life in Haiti.

Haiti is the color orange
Brightly colored Tap-Taps driving through the streets
Sun hot and high overhead
Dogs running through the streets
No oneís friend or pet.

These are the colors of my home
Full of hope, beauty and suffering
Full of life, laughter and loss
This is Haiti, pray for the home that I love.
