"I sprinkled your ashes into the ocean
Only God Knows how much of me poured out and stayed there with you." - Robert W. Ford (Epilogue to his poem "Goodbye, For Now")
The powdered ashes of his life were poured
upon the ocean’s frothy crests; the waves,
which splashed his eyes with salted tears, absorbed
the flesh —once loved and held— into the grave
she’d chosen as her final resting place.
Now standing on the shore, he’s drowning too,
for every ebb and flow now frames her face
with shifting sands and empty sea shells chewed
and ravaged by the tides. But Providence
knows well the desperation of this hour,
the queries and the want for recompense;
‘I will repay, and that with mighty power!
and on that day, all powdered ashes poured
will be renewed and rise to greet the Lord!’
