This poem is not on meter, and it does not rhyme that was not my intention. It is written as it would be spoken. Please let me know what you think.
By: Rick Flowers

In the dark corners it lurks
Waiting for that moment of vulnerability
Then moving in like clouds on a sunny day
Destroying the warmth, the beauty, the magic

Like a bad joke it takes you to deaths door
Ravages your body, your soul, your mind
Inflicting pain and suffering like no other
Sometimes, people come back, sometimes, they don't

There's no way to know why
Perhaps it's not ours to know
Perhaps for some, it's their destiny
Perhaps they’re a catalyst for some greater purpose

Frustration, it is inevitable
Life is ours to live or to miss
To watch as one gives up is beyond imagination
Is beyond what we know is reality

No longer does it lurk in the corner
It has reared its ugly, demonic head
It has enveloped, it has stalked, it has possessed
It has declared victory though no battle has been fought

It becomes life for so many
Though it is not human nature to give up
Some do….
Some see no way out of the darkness that has become their life

For those of us watching, it can destroy the spirit if allowed
It can depress, it can anger, it can overwhelm
Though it can do all these things, it does not hold the key
The key to the gates of life

For even when our demons blind us to the truth
Even when it cloaks us in darkness
There is always light, there is always love
There is always an outstretched hand waiting…
Waiting for us to take hold, waiting for us to come home

It is in knowing this that we go on
It is this hope that we continue to believe
It is knowing, that it has already been defeated
We cannot loose against a dark force that has already lost

Always remember, children of God
There is no battle you cannot win for it has already been fought
There is nothing the darkness sends your way you cannot over come
You are the victor, what you do with that knowledge is up to you.
