Adult audience - I frequently suffer from insomnia, and recently am recovering from situational anxiety and depression. This is one of my "darker" poems.
Blanket of Night
The blanket of night covered me in deep, dark stillness.
As I gazed out into its depth
I came to know the sadness of the generations.
I held it, that darkness, as I sighed
And tried to cross over into sleep.
With tears still wet upon my cheek
I longed for a lost time of light and laughter.
Staring behind closed eyelids, I nodded towards sleep.
The darkness swirled around me
And pulled me farther away.
It led me to a place I longed to go.
A destination achieved
Through the wanting and a dream
Under the blanket of night in deep, dark stillness.
