'The Cottage of Grace'

"We create elaborate houses for our bodies, but our souls are relegated to a hillside shanty where the night winds chill us and the rain soaks us...it's not God's plan for your heart to roam as a Bedouin."
Max Lucado in Grace for the Moment

A tired and bedraggled soul
wanders the wilderness
unprotected and alone
no roof to shelter it from the elements of life
the winds and rain
beating it down
into complacency
into conformity
A weak and hurting flicker
Yearning for something
beyond its nomadic lifestyle
Having no direction
the soul meanders
a life away
Fluttering in and out
of possibilities
Nothing ever quite reaching
the hole at the core
of its being

May I invite a troubled soul
into the cottage of grace
Where a warm fire burns at the hearth
and a sacrificial meal
sooths the emptiness
that lies within
A cozy home, wayward soul,
You'll never want to leave
Where you will find rest
and above all
the forgiveness that heals
all brokenness
