This is concludes part 2
As a follow up to part two, you will observe that in verse thirteen of Joshua seventeen, the children of Israel could not drive the enemies out but they put them in forced labor.
However, the house of Joseph that had great power drove their enemies out.
Because of this, BECOME STRONG!
Do not be in a hurry, the plan of the Lord is to do things one after the other. He told His people, Israel, in those days in Exodus 23:30.
"Little by little, I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased (in power), and you inherit the land."
Can you now understand this? Little by little, HAVE THE DOMINION!
EFFECT OF POWER
Here, we are considering four effects of power in the life of man.
1. Your power affects the type of gifts you will receive from God and man.
God never does things amiss anytime and anyday.
He gives gifts to individuals according to ability. He considers a person's power first.
Your level of power will dictate your measure of gifts. The greater your power, the more your gift will be.
For example, when you were a new born again Christian, you have a measure of the Holy Spirit and His power. You already have the gift of God to be His witness in your family, your Jerusalem, among friends, neighbors, and co-worker. He may not give you immediately His gift to be His witness to the uttermost part of the earth.
You may be given this later as you grow in His power. Do you now understand this?
In the same vein, it is your power that will dictate the gift ditto responsibility that you will be given.
Matthew 25:14-15 reads,
"For the kingdom of heaven is like a man travelling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.
And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each ACCORDING TO HIS OWN ABILITY." (capitals added).
Please, pay serious attention to the capitalised sole criteria, ABILITY!
Therefore, how is your ability? How is your power?
2. Your power affects your decisions. Your dominion directly influences the kind of decisions you will make.
An African adage (in translation) says,
"If your hand has not gripped the handle of a sword, you cannot ask for the type of death that claimed your father's life."
That is power!
He that holds the handle of a sword has the authority to ditate which way he wants it to devour.
Whoever decided to do what he lacks the power to do will suffer shame.
Acts 11:29 informs us about the disciples that,
"Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea."
What you do not have, you cannot give it to another.
How is your ability? How strong are you? What is yo power in the Lord like?
Apostle Paul says
"I can do all things through Christ who strenthens me."
Have attained this level of faith and power? Or you just "name it and claim it" without actually growing to that level?
Beloved, you may be disappointed!
3. Your power affects your performance- low, average or excellence.
Your having dominion influences whethe or not you will excel.
Your excellence is measured by how strong you are.
What you have more than others, power, dictates whether you will excel or not.
If your ability is at par with those of other, what difference have you?
You are the same with them: ordinary or common.
Listen to the counsel of a father to his son whom he loved that became the title of this piece in Genesis 27:40,
"And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt HAVE THE DOMINION, that thou shalt break his yoke frow off thy neck." King James Version.
This means that it is your having the dominion that will break the yoke of slavery, captivity and lacks which others are in from your neck.
This will put a difference between you and others.
When Samson lost his power, he became an ordinary man. He became like any other man. He became a common man. It was his power that made him different among men. The power made to excel in the Lord his God.
How is your power?
4. Your authority affects directly your fulfillment of God-given assignment to mankind and His specific plans and programmes for your life.
It has been the plan of God since creation that mankind must reign and dominate everything He created.
Genesis 1:27-28 establishes this,
"So God created man in His own image: in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it: HAVE DOMINION over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
Do you know that for you to carry out these responsibilities, you need the power of God?
Your authority affects all assignments. Without adequate power, you cannot perform any of them. How is your dominion?
Therefore have the do
