I’m not a God who is out there, lost in a vast universe,
Or needs to be explained in some Psalm’s mystic verse,
I’m actually no different to any other loving Dad,
Who longs to build relationships with the children he’s had.
And I’ve been watching their lives and seeing them strain,
As they have tried to struggle against life’s heavy rain,
I realised there was only one thing left that I could do,
I’d come to earth Myself. I’d come. And die for you.
I’ll pay the price that’s due; that simply must be paid.
When the scales of justice rock, My innocence can be weighed.
I’ll wipe the slate clean, I’ll wash away each and every stain,
And I’ll give you a reason to sing, even in that heavy rain.
I’ll walk with you when caught in a cycle of being used,
I’ll cry with you when you feel you’re being attacked or abused.
When chemical addictions are rife, with talons sharp and deep,
You’ll find a pathway out, marked by the tears that I weep.
And that’s exactly what He did, leaving His heavenly place,
He made a move to win me, to bring me into heavenly grace.
He stretched His arms wide open. He said, “I’ll die for you.”
And now I am left with a question, “In return, what can I do?”
The answer came one night, as I pondered His precious gift,
Looking back over the rain and pain of my life’s massive rift,
And I realised in loving gratitude, I knew exactly what to do,
I’ll stretch my arms wide in sacrifice; “Jesus, I too, will die for You.”
