The trip between Missouri to Indiana leads through lots of flat farmland. Add a lone tree and some soul searching and a poem was born.
It stood gnarled and leafless on the far side of the fallow field.
At midday, it stood sun baked and barren, gray and lifeless.
Any traveler along the country road
Would quickly look for more interesting fair;
Something with color that would sway in the lazy breeze.
The solitary tree too easily overlooked in the harsh sunů
But when the sun was ready to set
And the horizon brushed in heather and rose,
The silhouette of the tree stood out
In dark contrast to the sunset.
Many a traveler would stop to admire
The intricate twists of the windswept tree
So brilliantly displayed on its colorful canvas.
And for those who frequently pass,
They would think that it often takes
A different light to discover something beautiful.
