TITLE: Going The Distance

I wrote this poem as an encouragement and a thank you to a male friend of mine. However, it can be directed toward anyone as a challenge to run the good race and fight the good fight of faith.
“Going The Distance”
I’ve heard it said that there are some roads on which a man must walk alone, and there are times in life that man goes through in which he is on his own…
But the lone, distant male can never prevail in all of life’s strong and stormy gales. For no matter his might nor the strength of his fight, there’s but one way to going the distance in life . . .
You see, I’ve also heard a very different word from the One who is Faithful and True, that a cord of three strands is not easily broken and one is not as good as two . . .
So friendships are born and relationships forged to strengthen us for the trip. They will sustain us when life comes against us and bear us up when we slip…
Run the good race and fight the good fight, always looking to Him who gave up His life, and no matter how great the distance may seem or how many miles between there may be, the bond that we share will always be there, of that you can be sure . . .
Yes, there’s a race to be run and a prize to be won when this life we live is over and done, but the answer to going the distance, you see, is not found in “I” or “Me” but “We.”
