On angel’s wings
The night was grossly dark even the moon failed to appear. This was not a night for a new moon.
I had to ask myself why we were here, dingy clothes and flash- lights were the apparel.
John , why in heaven’s name are we here? Larry, How long has it been since you listened to the news. The news, I asked.
John, I suppose you are forgetting in these parts we lack the availability of television. Or at least I do. Larry, some of us have the luxury and others don’t.
We are here by request. My friend of twelve years stated. A request. I replied. Of what sort? Larry a little girl is missing and I was asked if we would take part in a mission called On angels wings.
Something I know God would have us partake in. Whether the time is Three O clock in the afternoon or Three in the morning.
You could have come to the point, John. Now I understand your urgency and the wearing of dingy cloths. Its not like we are attending church. But rather walking in a remote part of the forest.
When did she disappear John? Yesterday, around noon, he said. It was getting late, the coyotes were calling in a distance. There was a slight breeze in the air. Just enough to sway the leaves on the trees.
The sound of last autumns leaves crackle as we walk the trail. With flashlights on we could only hope of good news.
John, do you know the vicinity of where she disappeared? They say her home is about two miles east from here. Others are searching in the next town.
The police are vague about their information. We along with others are searching in Mills forest. Tomorrow we will resume where we leave off tonight.
John, I heard the helicopters but had no idea of the circumstances. Larry said. I would have came by but I was not home, was John's reply.
As we were talking the glow of a flashlight became nearer. Larry, Is that you? Yes, Larry said. It’s Richard. Who is with you? He asked. John, John Oaks.
There is some unfortunate news. We found a pair of shoes and a doll along the trail. We are hoping they aren’t hers but my gut feeling is they are.
I’m going back with the others, Richard said. John and I will go west. We continued walking for several hours, no trace of the little girl.
Lord, you know where she is. I feel almost like we have to be angels to find her. There is no reason why this should be happening. Father, help her to be found. Amen.
Tomorrow would be another day for On angels wings. The sun was just rising as we left our homes in search of the missing girl. Her name Patty.
Her family has lived here for quite some time. Good Christian folks they say. Patty has an older brother and sister. They are a family of strong faith. Faith is what will see them through.
We interupt our broadcast to bring you this update of the missing girl in Seville County. She has been found. She is alive but no further information will be available until her family is notified.
Praise God, John did you hear. It’s a miracle. Larry, God truly does have angels watching over his children, he said with a smile on his face. On angels wings.
