TITLE: There's No Such Thing as Giants

Anyone interested in a deeper walk with God.
I'm officially on an adventure to go where God is calling me. As an act of pure worship, I will be writing devotionals, God stories, life lessons, or whatever else He puts on my heart. It seems simple to say, "I'll go where you say to go, Lord," but is it really?

Simple by definition means to be composed of one thing, element, or part. Simplicity demands that you take it at face value. Either it is or it ain't. Either you go or you don't. Well, I'm going.

When Jesus called the disciples, He didn't say, "After you get your stuff together, lose weight, sell the house, and raise the kids, meet me in Galilee; then we'll do this whole redeeming the world gig." It wasn't complicated. He simply said, "Follow Me." They did not hesitate. They did not ask questions. The Bible says that they went at once. Matthew 4: 18 -20 (NIV)

The decision was coming for years. The jumping off point occurred in January. It was like a long winter, followed by a quick burst of spring. Since that time I have had a peace, freedom, and balance that I haven't experienced in months. However, I've had moments of fear, anxiety, and hives. One loose end was still niggling at the back of my brain. I couldn't figure out how I had deep down peace, but in the background there was still static and a titanic counter pressure to retreat. The Ides of March were upon me.

The account of the twelve spies that were sent to the Promised Land floated through my mind. A slow dawning began as I thought, "How is it that the Israelites believed a second hand report about an extinct race of giants they had never laid eyes on? How could they forget the MIRACLES that God performed right before their very eyes? "

I looked up the exploration of the Promised Land in Numbers 13. I found some interesting things. God promised them a land flowing with milk and honey. In other words, a good land that would have everything they needed to survive and prosper. Moses asked twelve men to bring back an objective report.

Look the land over, see what it is like. Assess the people: Are they strong or weak? Are there few or many? Observe the land: Is it pleasant or harsh? Describe the towns where they live: Are they open camps or fortified with walls? And the soil: Is it fertile or barren? Are there forests? And try to bring back a sample of the produce that grows there—this is the season for the first ripe grapes. Numbers 13: 17 - 20. (NIV)

What he got back was fear mongering. It says that ten of the scouts "spread a bad report." When I looked up the words "bad report" in the Hebrew, I discovered that it comes from the word 'Dibbah' which means whispering, defamation, or evil. (Old Testament Hebrew Lexicon)

And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them." Numbers 13: 31 - 33 (NIV)

I had a light bulb moment. Nephilim existed before the flood. How could they be roaming around still if the whole earth was flooded? How is it that the land devoured those who were living in it if the people were strong, the cities fortified, and grape clusters so big that they had to be shagged back to camp on a pole? Even the term grasshoppers smacks of hyperbole. The scouts weren't just emphasizing the negative. They were lying.

I was letting f.e.a.r. (False Evidence Appearing Real as Ed Young, Jr says) determine my steps. I slammed on the mental brakes and began to pray loudly and boldly. I screamed at the enemy to flee. I praised God for every miracle he has worked in my ordinary life in my ordinary circumstances. I chose then and there to put my stake in the ground and stand firm because my God is a big God. Because....."The One who called me is completely dependable. If he said it, he will do it:" 1 Thessalonians 5:24. (MSG)

What is the point? There's no such thing as giants who are too big for God. If God is calling you to do something, do it. Don't wait. Do it immediately and decisively. Put your adventure pants on, take what He is offering you, and hang on because He will do it!
