TRUST JESUS TODAY
I wrote this poem while I was waiting to be taken into surgery. I felt all alone because no one was able to come with me. I took out my prayer journal and wrote part of it in the waiting room, the next few verses after I had changed into my hospital gown and the end after they put my IV in minutes before wheeling me into the operating room. I would love to see this in a Chicken Soup book or in a Christian Magazine.
WRITTEN BY SHANN HALL-LOCHMANNVANBENNEKOM 2009
God’s arms are wrapped around me,
I feel so scared and alone.
He whispers in my ear and
Tells me that I may set the tone.
But the Lord is in control;
He knows my needs and fears.
I can trust in the Lord, or
I can sit here and drown in my tears.
He gently reminds me
That He expects my best.
He knows of what I am capable,
And will accept no less.
When panic begins to set in,
He calms me with a gentle smile;
And tells me He knows I’m not perfect,
But He’ll be here all the while.
Jesus will guide and reassure me,
And ease my mind of gloom.
I am reminded that when I lean on Him,
I’m not destined to a life of doom.
Sometimes I let my fears run wild.
They often get the better of me.
My mind goes to all the what-ifs,
To be honest; I can get a little crazy.
But Jesus will not allow
The darkness to creep in.
He loves me unconditionally;
And even died to forgive my sins.
“There’s something special about you,”
He said as He caressed my face.
I feel like a dirty rag,
But He said that I’m beautiful like fine lace.
Jesus lived as a human;
So He would be able to fully understand
How misgivings and fear can go wild
When evil tries to get the upper hand.
Mary was chosen to be His mother.
Jesus witnessed firsthand the doubt
An unwed mother and her child feel
When people tease and shout.
Humans can be so mean.
Jesus knows how a heart can hurt.
So He sacrificed Himself by dying on the cross
And became the foundation of our Church.
I know He and His angels
Are always ready and near.
“You are loved, be calm,”
Jesus whispered, “And do not fear.”
“I love you so much.
You are certainly one of a kind.
You can accomplish all;
For the Holy Spirit lives in your mind.
The angels and I will offer protection.
We will never give up on you.
You need to learn how to trust;
And to believe what I say is true.”
I can feel God’s love ever-present; what a relief to be set free,
To believe in a powerful God,and to have Him believe in me!
