It's been a tradition in my family to make Jesus a cake on Christmas and have the wind blow the candles out, Then sing happy birthday.
Thanks for the encouraging critiques!
Love A.Wal
Happy birthday Jesus
A baby wrapped in swaddling clothes,
A gift from God to those He loves most.
I couldn't help but listen close.
When Mother finished telling me
This beautiful Christmas story.
It was time for me to fall asleep.
But at midnight, before I went to bed,
I knelt down and I bowd my head.
A little girl's prayer so sweetly said,
"Happy birthday Jesus,
I don't know what you'd want,
So I guess my gift is
That I haven't forgot.
It's Your birthday Jesus,
Happy birthday to you.
Have a Merry Christmas,
No matter what we do."
That very morning I was wide awake
To the smell of a birthday cake.
It was more than my nose could take.
Then when I went down to see,
I found this cake was not for me,
His Name written in white frosting.
Lit every candle, it was done,
So to the door we all did run
To watch the wind blow out each one.
and we'd sing.
Looking back now, it's like a dream.
The Christmases when we would sing
Happy birthday to the swaddled king.
No, things are not as they were before,
Santa's the star in every single store,
The Christmas story isn't told anymore.
Now we worry about what we want,
How much we spent and how much we bought.
Nobody cares about what we forgot.
But I know on this christmas day
My thoughts won't be too far away
From every special memory.
Yes, at midnight once again
Seasons greetings, just for Him.
Making this my tradition.
"Happy birthday Jesus,
I don't know what you'd want,
So I guess my gift is
That I haven't forgot.
It's Your birthday Jesus,
Happy birthday to you.
Have a Merry Christmas,
No matter what we do."
