You may recognize the rhythm of this poem. I was listening to a favorite old song but was bothered by words that did not honor God. So I asked the Lord to give me new words for it. I was inspired by the fact that they say that many old hymns are sung to recycled tunes.
The Holy Spirit’s in this place
Filling us with love and grace
And we want to see God’s face
So we’re taking it one step over the line.
We give up everything that’s ours
Be it money, fame or cars
Yes we’re reaching for the stars
And taking it one step over the line.
One step over, then back with fright
That’s for the birds now, brother!
We’re talking bold walking into the Light!
We’re giving it up and I don’t mean maybe!
We’re letting go of all our pain
Grudges, habits, pride or shame
We want healing by His name
So we’re taking it one step over the line!
With a power from above
We can walk now hand in glove
With this God of strength and love
If we take it one step over the line.
One step over the line, Hallelujah
One step over the line….
