Hal and Bud have been friends since they were four years old. That relationship continued through the sixth grade. Hall was a straight A student, Bud had learning disabilities. Bud became envious of Hal because he got good grades. Bud let his envy to get the best of him and he decided to cheat on his science test. He got caught and the teacher sent a note home to his dad.
Bud's dad Dave arrived home from work and his mom gave him the note he got from his teacher. Dave walked into his bedroom. "Son, I just got this note from your teacher. Would you like to explain?"
Bud looked at his dad and his head sunk, "Dad, I am tired of all the difficulties I have had at school. I want to get good grades like Hal."
Dave stared into Buds eye's," So you green with envy,"
Bud knew that is dad was right paused for a minute and said, "I guess I am."
"Son, the Lord created us all differently. We all have different talents and abilities. Just because you don't do as well as how does not mean your a bad person," he smiled at his son and then paused for a minute.
A serious look came over Dave's face, "I am concerned about the fact that you cheated. You remember the story in the Bible about Joseph?"
"yee..... ya," as Bud hesitated to respond to dad.
"Joseph's brothers were envious of them because it seemed that Jacob his farther loved him more than the rest of his brothers. They put him in a well and sold him," Dave paused for a second.
"In the end it turned out all right for Joseph and his brothers, but it does not make it right what they did to him. You cheated on your science test that was not right either."
"Dad I am sorry," said Bud.
Dad sighed and took a breath, "Ok, I am going to do two things. One, you're grounded. The only time you leave the house is for church and school. I am doing that to show you that it was wrong to cheat. Second, we are going to find you a tutor. We should have done this a long time ago."
"Dad, I am so sorry," Bud started to cry and showed remorse.
Dave gave his son a big smile, "Son I should have realized that you needed help. I love you, Jesus loves you. Maybe the Lord can take this bad situation and turn it into something good."
Bud's dad walked out of the room, and he wiped away his tears from his face. Bud got the encouragement to his the books in a new and different way.
