In these forty something years,
I’ve laughed a lot and shed some tears.
I’ve seen babies come, and loved ones go,
mountain tops, and valleys low.
I’ve seen the country from east to west,
I’ve felt so cursed, been so blessed.
I’ve had a lot, and lost it all,
been placed on pedestals, but then I fall.
I’ve seen the sun rise, then seen it set,
seen summers dry, and winters wet.
I’ve seen stormy nights, and days so fair,
seen people hate, and people care.
I’ve held little babies, that are now all grown,
and grown ups hands when they’re called home.
I’ve kissed my kids, and hugged a lot,
had important dates that I’d forgot.
I’ve seen autumns’ leaves of gold and red,
and springs’ that brought the trees from dead.
I’ve swam in creeks, and oceans too,
I’ve been in love, and I’ve been untrue.
I’ve felt so loved, and felt forsaken,
to babies cries I’ve been awakened.
I’ve seen miracles, and disasters too,
and leaned on God to make it through.
I’ve slept in peace, and lay awake,
I’ve prayed to God my soul to take.
Then when I think I’ve seen it all,
there’ll be heaven…I’ll stand in awe!
