Each morning the elderly couple
walked the same path
down streets of
the small beach town
which had been home for nearly
five decades.
Always early, the birds
never had time to
fluff their beds nor
start visiting
before the couple passed.
Just about sunrise,
they would reach the beach
where they took time
to thank God for the day
and each other.
As they walked home,
aroma of bacon and sausage
drifted from open windows.
With taste-buds awake,
and a little zip in their step,
they hurried to reach
their little white cottage
to satisfy their spurred-on cravings.
