TITLE: Doubly Loved
By jody madsen

This book is intended for both adults and children who have been affected by adoption. It is an attempt to salute those who have made a huge sacrifice, encourage those who have opened their arms and comfort those who have been adopted.
Doubly Loved

Out of selfless love often comes extreme pain. This story is dedicated to those hearty souls who can reach within and draw upon the strength of their Savior, Jesus, and love in a way very similar to His way. Those who choose to acknowledge His leading and those who draw upon His grace.

The people are older now, just as you are. Lots of things have changed, but not their love for you. You see, you are doubly loved. You are loved by a mom and you are loved by a dad. You are loved by grandmas and grandpas and possibly brothers and sisters. By uncles and aunts and cousins. Lots of people love you today. God gave you to them so you would be loved and cared for, cuddled and taught, safe and secure.

And you were also loved a while ago by another mom. And loved by another dad. You were loved by other grandmas and other grandpas, aunts and uncles. Lots of people loved you then, too. This other mom loved you when only God and she knew that you were there. God and she cared for you and kept you safe in her body until you could be born.

And as soon as he found out that you were there, another dad loved you. He watched as you grew and he read to you nearly every day so that you would be comforted by his voice. He wanted to care for you.

Grandmas and Grandpas’ prayed for you. And aunts and uncles shopped for gifts to welcome you.

Lots of people loved you then, and they loved you with all of their hearts. Those same people love you today and will love you for all of your tomorrows.

Having trouble believing that? Then just come along with me and we’ll peek in your first grandma and grandpa’s back yard. See the young couple at the picnic table?...The ones sitting in the sun with the book? That’s your birth mom and dad and they’re reading to you. Their friends wanted them to go to town, but they wanted to be with just you.

And if you are still not sure, let’s glance into the hospital waiting room around the time you made your grand entrance into our world. Look over there at those people across the room---the ones with their noses pressed against the nursery room glass. They are your birth grandmas and grandpas aunts and uncles. They’ve all been waiting to see you. And they have been waiting all night long. The nurses just cannot believe that so many people are there waiting or that they have waited so long. They stayed because they wanted to soak up every moment, every movement, every stretch and every little baby face that you would make. And so they stayed.

Still have some doubts? Then look into the hospital room over there, down the hall. That one over there, where the young woman with the flowing red hair, cradles her babe close to her heart. Notice the young man beside her. Both just staring at you. He asks for time alone just for the three of you. That’s you and your birth parents. Quiet time together. Hoping, praying, dreaming that you’ll know one day that they love you--- how much they hoped for you that day.

And if the doubts still won’t go away, peer into a second story window and see a room filled with people. Those there, wouldn’t be any other place, though it would be easier to be any other place. But it is time to provide you with a great gift of love. A love that is able to meet more of your needs, through God’s plan. Oh how they wanted another plan, but they were trusting God that His plan would be better. That young couple, with tear stained eyes, places you lovingly and gently, into the arms of those who are your mom and dad now. And yes, you can see the tears of loss and sacrifice, but there are also tears of great joy and hope and expectation for you.

Now, if you doubt that those first people still love you, even today, let me take you to one more window. Over there in the corner—see the same beautiful lady with the flowing hair? She’s writing to you. She hasn’t forgotten. See the man on his knees? He’s praying for you and reading to you still. He hasn’t forgotten you. And in the back, see the people with the tattered pictures??? They’re all of you. They haven’t forgotten. And they never will. For you, you are doubly loved.
