Dwelling on the thought of a world without God, this piece was the result.
If I am starved of love,
While my heart may yet pump my blood,
It becomes some empty vessel.
A vessel that is not filled,
Has nothing to dispense.
If I am starved of beauty,
It is my soul that cries out in anguish.
For in rhythms and hues and verse,
I am nourished.
Without which, I am but an empty fountain.
If I am starved of truth,
Then where am I to go for guidance?
I am as a lost lamb
With only false paths to follow.
If I am starved of mercy,
Then I find no reason to right myself.
Is it not the merciful hand that reaches
Out to help us when we stumble?
If I am starved of knowledge,
Then I shall ever stand here on this spot
Never seeking for more.
I shall impart all the wisdom of some stone carving
Formed by another’s hand.
If I am starved of friendship,
Then my life is devoid of laughter.
I find I am guardian of my own secrets;
Keeper of my private tale.
They are mean possessions to harbor alone.
If I am starved of faith,
Then without my God,
There is no love,
Nor is there beauty.
Truth and mercy are but meaningless words.
The world is in ignorance
And we find ourselves as solitary creatures.
It is so, without God, we all hunger.
