The night is almost here.
Snowflakes fall and shimmer in my head,
my heart hoping for this promise of reality soon,
Christmas to be white again would be a gift enough.
Who could ask for anymore?
Family is once again gathering in peace and solidarity,
Anticipating fun spirits and full bellies;
Friends are continuously in my heart,
Just knowing they are there is enough,
to rejoice in love and community.
My country is rich and secure,
Happiness is sought after, needs met.
There is more, oh so much more because
most of all, the birth of Christ is celebrated.
Everything else swept to the side, in His Wisdom
the day is not important, the gifts nullified.
It is not about ownership, itís not about good will,
Itís not about freedom, itís not about optimism.
Itís about receiving, celebrating, rejoicing,
the grace Jesus came to earth as a baby to give,
Itís about showing the same love, grace and light
to our neighbour, friend and family member
through the gifts present in the glory of God.
Itís about swallowing the everlasting water
That heals pain, embodies grace, and sends love.
Receiving allows us to give despite the shadows,
Swallowing allows us to anticipate, celebrate the healing,
Embodying the love shines light in the darkness
of such an apprehensive holiday.
How beautiful the gifts of Christ are.
The night is almost here,
But if Christmas day is once again blanketed
In pure white, from east to west,
each person seeking peace and love;
The gifts will once again be used to the glory,
To the glory of God the Father,
And to the blessed Son the babe,
To once again overcome the night.
