I wrote this song as a patriotic tune that possibly make others think of the sacrifice so many have made for our freedom. It is important to understand how the flag represents so much more to a soldier who is willing to die for his country.
My Daddy’s Flag
When daddy went off to war
I was standing in my crib
And for a while it was me and Mom
Hanging tuff through thick and thin
So when they came and told us both
Daddy wasn’t coming home
I remember Mom, she held me tight
She didn’t want to let me go
Now thirty years have come and gone
And still my Dad we miss
And while going through some of his things
Upstairs in a cedar chest
I found the flag they handed Mom
On that cold and rainy day
I wondered if that flag would fly
Just one more time for Dad
I don’t think that Dad would mind
If we flew his flag just one more time
To show him just how much we really care
Why leave Old Glory in a cedar chest
When she’s always flown with the very best
No I don’t think that Dad would mind
If we flew his flag just one more time
Well, I slowly walked through the kitchen door
And asked Mom to follow me
That summer day on our front porch
We set Old Glory free
As Mom and I thought of Dad
And all that he had stood for
We knew that flag was more than clothe
It was what my Daddy had bleed and died for
And I don’t think Dad would mind
If we flew his flag just one more time
To show him just how much we really care
Why leave Old Glory in a cedar chest
When she’s always flown with the very best
No I don’t think that Dad would mind
If we flew his flag just one more time
