Never Take a Shortcut, When You Can...

John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
John.6:48 I am the bread of life.

(Scene opens with man sitting surrounded by books and videos intently reading one of them. He does not notice his wife who comes in with a clothes basket of clothes to fold)
Wife: Watcha reading hon?
Husband: (Doesn't respond)
Wife: (Waving her hands in front of him - still no response- smiles as an idea comes to her mind) I just wanted to tell you that my mother is coming to live with us...
Husband: (Not looking up) That's nice, dear.
Wife: ( Nonchalantly) I also wanted to tell you that my old boyfriend Ron called today and professed his love for me and I have decided to run away with him to a deserted island and leave you with the kids...
Husband: (Still intently reading) Mmmhmmm...
Wife: ( Sits down and begins to fold clothes) Oh, yeah... and the remote control is broken...
Husband: (Slamming his book down in his lap look of panic) What?!? What happened?!?
Wife: I thought that might get your attention. I was kidding... the remote is fine. (Husband wipes his brow as though relieved - Wife leans over and lifts up book slightly) This must be pretty interesting. You looked like you were in a trance. (Lets go of the book and notices all the books/videps stacked around) Are you going to read and watch all of those?
Husband: (Very seriously) I plan to. I have been thinking a lot about what the preacher said. I need to get serious about finding Christ's plan for my life.
Wife: (Skeptically - pointing at the books/videos) So you think the answer is in all of these books and tapes?
Husband: Sure! Honey, I have everything a person would ever need to build a closer daily walk with Christ.(Picking up several books) I have " Seven Habits of Highly Offensive Christians", "How to Follow Jesus in Your Spare Time" and "Living for Jesus Without Ruinng Your Reputation".
Wife: (Picking up a couple of tapes) And just look at these!
Husband: (Excitedly) Yeah! I have "Sweatin' with the Apostles" AND "Finding Your Inner Servant". I also got a screensaver that gives me a new quote from a famous Christian leader every day and, here's the best part, guess what...
Wife: (Mock excitement) What?
Husband: We have tickets to the Gaither Homecoming concert this April! This year, they're doing a salute to the church at Laeodicea!
Wife: That's great and all honey, but aren't you forgetting something?
Husband: (Rubbing his chin - looking over his items) No... I think I have every resource a guy would ever need to strengthen his walk with Jesus.
Wife: (walking to a table by the side of stage) Well... while you're reading all those great books, you might want to glance over this one too... (Hands him the book)
Husband: (Rubbing his chin) Hey!... the Bible... I hadn't thought of that...

(speaker walks to podium as the two walk off stage)
