FaithWriters.com Announces their new Critique Circle

FaithWriters.com, the premier site for Christian writers, has announced the opening of their brand new Critique Circle for Christian writers.

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) November 25, 2004 -- Any writer that wishes to develop their writing skills needs to become part of a critique group. The FaithWriters Critique Circle is a unique way for writers to receive pure writing critiques and become part of a thriving critique community.

“We saw a need to create a level playing field when it came to writers receiving important feedback on their works. However, it needs to be done in a safe yet fair environment. This was accomplished by providing the new Critique Circle system.”

Many times writers will ask for a writing critique but are not willing to give one to others. With the Critique Circle system, this cannot happen. Writers can post one of their pieces but then must critique the work of another member in order to get a credit to post again. This makes the process completely fair. For each critique given to another member, writers can earn and accumulate credits to post writing pieces of their own. This is the only way to make sure that everyone in the critique process gets feedback.

"Developing writers is our main concern and the new Critique Circle is another way for writers from around the world to hone their writing skills."

Sadly, most people go their whole lives without ever being truly inspired" says Scott Lindsay founder of FaithWriters.com. Livonia, MI (PRWEB) October 13, 2005 -- "I’ve often thought how very thankful I am that God didn’t just fill the Bible with stories about His perfect children, living perfect lives and doing perfect things. Instead, He allowed us to see the good, the bad and the ugly – often all demonstrated through the same person" says Scott Lindsay founder of FaithWriters.com. "The Book of Genesis alone is full of real people, living real lives (warts and all) and loving God at the same time – just like you and me".

In the Beginning (ISBN: 1597813605, Xulon Press, 2005, $17.99) by FaithWriters offers over 80 award winning inspirational messages by 52 of the best Christian writers. FaithWriters.com, the premier site for Christian writers, has released the sixth of its seasonal anthologies called "FaithWriters -- A Year of Celebration."

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) October 17, 2005 -- God created His children to celebrate. "There is something deep within each of us that wants to commemorate and rejoice in the events, milestones and people that have impacted our lives. This desire to celebrate is another aspect of the human soul which sets us apart from all other creation" says Deb Porter challenge Coordinator of FaithWriters.com. "I honestly believe that if we weren’t given opportunities to celebrate in this way, we would invent reasons to do so … which, when you think about it, is pretty much what we already do. A quick look at any greeting card selection will prove that."

A Year of Celebration (ISBN: 1597816248, Xulon Press, 2005, $17.99) by FaithWriters offers over 80 award winning inspirational messages by 49 of the best Christian writers. It is filled with the most encouraging and uplifting messages submitted to the Weekly Writing Challenge on FaithWriters.com. “Virtually every week of the year is now set aside to celebrate or remember something, from the deeply significant to the inanest of nonsense. So in this sixth FaithWriters’ anthology, we celebrate celebrations. In fact, a whole year of the very best reasons for rejoicing -- Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Birthdays, Father’s Day, Anniversaries, Friendship Day and Thanksgiving."

FaithWriters.com, the premier site for Christian writers, has released its seventh anthology, “FaithWriters -- Journey of Faith.”

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) March 10, 2006 -- Everybody loves a vacation, and the members of FaithWriters.com are no exception. So when they were presented with the challenge of writing about such topics as “camping,” “car trips,” “postcards” and “the beach,” they packed their imaginations, grabbed the suntan lotion and headed straight to their keyboards.

“With ten vacation-focused topics, I was really expecting this to be the ultimate get-away-from-it-all book,” said Deborah Porter, the FaithWriters.com Writing Challenge Coordinator. “Of course, by now I should realize that FaithWriters’ members are notorious for writing outside the box. Ten weeks and over 1200 submissions later, the end result turned out to be a far cry from my anticipated literary trip to the Bahamas -- it was even better. What started out as a book about vacations, instead became an inspirational Journey of Faith.”

FaithWriters -- Journey of Faith (ISBN: 159781900X, Xulon Press, 2006, $17.99) is a collection of 80 award winning inspirational, encouraging, challenging, and entertaining messages by 47 of the best Christian authors from the FaithWriters.com Writing Challenge.

The weekly Writing Challenge has rapidly grown from its very humble member-initiated beginnings in 2003, to what it is today -- an exceptionally popular contest for Christian writers, with the best entries each week being published in the quarterly anthologies, such as Journey of Faith.

“FaithWriters’ members often become quite passionate about the Writing Challenge,” Deborah explained. “Where else can a new writer find such a terrific opportunity to develop their skill, receive feedback on their work, and possibly end up published as well? There’s no doubt that these opportunities have made the weekly Writing Challenge extremely popular. The Journey of Faith anthology really is the fruit of that popularity, enthusiasm and excellence. It may not be a vacation for your body, but it is definitely a vacation for the soul.”

FaithWriters.com, the premier site for Christian writers, introduces its new book review service for members.

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) March 10, 2006 -- Any author will tell you that although writing a book may be a lot of work, marketing that same book is nothing short of hard labor. With print-on-demand technology and self-publishing options rapidly becoming popular alternatives to the traditional publishing route, more and more writers are now able to see their work in print. However, many of these same authors are discovering that the road to book sales can be a long and tiring one. With this in mind, FaithWriters.com has introduced their new book review service, designed specifically to help new writers with the promotion of their books.

FaithWriters’ Book Review Coordinator, Deborah Porter, said, “With so many FaithWriters’ members publishing their own books these days, we saw an opportunity to be able to help them with the marketing of their work. After all, that is the very heartbeat of FaithWriters.com--helping Christian writers to reach their potential and fulfill their God-given destiny.”

Book reviews are not completely new territory for FaithWriters. Reviews were originally introduced as part of the ‘Well Read’ section in the monthly FaithWriters’ Magazine. However, the emphasis gradually shifted from reviews of books by FaithWriters’ members and other new writers, to reviews of books by popular authors. As Deborah explained, “The reviews in ‘Well Read’ were outstanding, but somewhere along the way we wandered a little off track from our original goal, which was to give new authors a chance to see their books in the media spotlight. That’s why the new FaithWriters’ Book Review site is so exciting. It’s time for the new kids on the block to have a place to shine.”

For writers, the benefits of the FaithWriters’ Book Review site are obvious. However, the benefits for readers are just as great. Anyone who has ever walked into a bookstore knows how overwhelming it can be to try and select just one book from the multitude on display. Then there is always the uncertainty of whether the final selection will live up to expectations. When it comes to unknown authors and online bookstores, the decision is even harder. So with fair and balanced reviews, FaithWriters are helping to take the guess work out of choosing the best book for each reader’s needs.

“It’s all about connecting good books with God’s people,” Deborah stated. “Ultimately, that’s really what FaithWriters is all about.”

FaithWriters.com, the premier site for Christian writers, introduces the FaithWriters Christian email service.

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) March 20, 2006 -- They say that actions speak louder than words, and more often than not, an email address speaks even louder. If you want people to think of you as fun-loving and lively, then e-mail protected from spam bots will do the job. But if you’re a writer and want to make a strong impression from the outset, then it may be time to hang up the cotton-tail and opt for a new, professional email identity--and FaithWriters.com has the ideal alternative with their new web based email service for Christian writers.

Spam, annoying advertisements, pop ups, and limited storage space are growing problems with many web based email services. Because of this, FaithWriters.com has recognized the need to provide a service that eliminates these problems and allows subscribers to identify themselves as both writers and Christians.

With ample storage, the FaithWriters email service provides more than enough space for most users, and permits web access to email from any computer, anywhere in the world. Incorporating a wide range of advanced, easy to use features, including storage management, spell checker, rich text editor, address book, message/mail search, Microsoft Word functionality, and automatic signatures, it has everything a writer would require for a professional email identity. As a special bonus, it even has a built-in daily devotional to help keep the inspiration flowing.

So if “cuddle bunny” has turned into a dead duck, a FaithWriters email address may be the perfect solution to give your writing career that perfect professional touch.

FaithWriters.com, the premier site for Christian writers, introduces FaithWriters for Kids--a writing site for children between the ages of 7 to 14.

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) March 27, 2006 -- You can lead a child to paper, but you can’t make him write. When compared to video games and favorite television shows, writing and reading all too often take a back seat in the lives of 7 to 14 year olds--that is if they’re given any room at all. But when you spark a child’s imagination and make writing fun, stand back and watch the creativity flow--which is exactly what FaithWriters.com is doing with their brand new writing site, FaithWriters for Kids.

“The idea of starting a writing site specifically for children has been suggested by FaithWriters’ members occasionally in the past,” explained Deborah Porter, Coordinator of the highly popular FaithWriters’ weekly Writing Challenge. “But it really wasn’t until a couple of children ‘sneaked’ entries into the Challenge that the very real need for a place of their own became obvious. The children were both very young, but their stories were delightful and received a huge amount of feedback. Children like these are the faith writers of the future, and what a privilege it is to now be able to provide a way for them to express themselves and help develop their skills.”

Published author and mother of six, Karen Elengikal, has been one of the strongest supporters of the FaithWriters for Kids project, which isn’t surprising when you discover that the two youngest-ever Challenge entrants came from her family. When asked about her enthusiasm for FaithWriters for Kids, Karen said, “The mandate we possess as godly parents is to pass our Christian heritage onto our children. This includes providing avenues for them to express and develop their God-given gifting in the arts. I see the FaithWriters for Kids site as a vital tool in God’s hands, giving an outlet for effective expression of our children’s writing, while prodding and cultivating their enormous imaginations in an environment of Christian love and care.”

Using a simplified version of the successful FaithWriters.com site, FaithWriters for Kids provides children and young teenagers with the ideal place to write and read about the things that matter most to them, as well as a non-competitive weekly writing challenge all of their own.

“The effective results of combining opportunity, inspiration, challenge and encouragement have been shown time and again at FaithWriters.com,” stated Mrs. Porter. “Now it’s time to unleash those same things into the lives of the next generation of Christian writers. Who knows? We may be nurturing a future Ted Dekker, Karen Kingsbury, Jerry B. Jenkins or Francine Rivers ... or perhaps someone who will write just one thing that will touch one other heart for Jesus. What more could we ask?”

The Christian e-Book Revolution has Arrived

FaithWriters.com, the premier site for Christian writers, introduces their radical, new E-book Store.

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) June 1, 2006 -- When e-books first appeared on the scene, there were many who thought they were yet another techno-fad that wouldn’t last the test of time. But, as is often the case, the naysayers were wrong. Downloading an e-book has never been easier or more affordable, and it’s the readers and authors who are the big winners. As more and more people embrace this new format, it is obvious that e-book technology is here to stay -- which is why Faithwriters.com has taken a gigantic leap to the front of the e-book revolution, with their radical new online store.

From its inception, FaithWriters.com has recognized the importance of providing a professional avenue for Christian writers to be able to publish their work. Over the years, they have consistently made opportunities for their members to be able to accomplish this, in an ever-increasing variety of ways. The creation of their new e-book store is the latest example of FaithWriters’ ongoing desire to achieve this key, missional goal--and it couldn’t be simpler.

With traditional publishing out of the reach of most authors, and self-publishing often proving an expensive, sometimes disappointing, experience, the e-book format provides a more than satisfactory, cost-effective alternative. In the case of FaithWriters.com, there is the quite substantial added bonus that the author retains complete control over their literary creation.

For a small monthly fee of $5.95, members of FaithWriters.com are able to list up to five of their e-books in the online store--instantly reaching a large, worldwide audience.

However, the thing that makes this new e-book store so radical is the fact that the authors receive 100% of all their book sales.

Editor, writer and longtime FaithWriters’ member, Deborah Porter, admits to being delighted with this new service. She explained, “An author sows their very soul into every word they write. The cost in terms of their time, effort, blood, sweat and tears, is beyond price. So it is wonderful to see this opportunity for them to not only promote their work in such a user-friendly environment, but also receive payment in full each time someone downloads their book. It’s a little bit of financial recognition for all the hours that went into its creation.”

Although traditional books will probably hold first place in the hearts and minds of the majority of readers for generations to come, there is no question that the e-book revolution is making its presence felt--and FaithWriters.com members are about to start reaping the rewards

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) June 5, 2006 -- In the midst of all the turmoil and pressures of life in the 21st Century, the idea of escaping to a place of peace and beauty can be very appealing. Each year, more and more people are moving away from the hustle and bustle of city living, in the hope of finding tranquility in a world of unrest. However, for the vast majority, it’s a case of making that peaceful place right were we are--and the latest anthology from FaithWriters.com, “Come Away with Me,” will help to do just that.

Using Song of Songs 2:10-13 for inspiration, FaithWriters.com members were challenged to let their creativity run free by writing about such topics as “singing,” “flowers,” “fragrance,” “rain,” and “fruit.” The end result is a glorious selection of stories and poems that will stir the reader’s heart and bless their soul.

FaithWriters.com Writing Challenge Coordinator, Deborah Porter, said, “This particular passage of scripture has always captivated me. It is such an expression of love and beauty, that I can never fail to be uplifted whenever I read it. So, I have to admit that this is probably my personal favorite of all our anthologies to date. It is definitely a soul reviver for anyone who feels as though they are living in an eternal winter.”

FaithWriters--Come Away with Me (ISBN: 1600342396, Xulon Press, 2006, $17.99) is a collection of 80 award winning inspirational, encouraging, and entertaining messages by 59 of the very best Christian authors from the FaithWriters.com Writing Challenge.

The weekly Writing Challenge has rapidly grown from its very humble, member-initiated beginnings in 2003, to what it is today--an exceptionally popular contest for Christian writers, with the best entries each week being published in the quarterly anthologies, such as Come Away with Me.

“The Writing Challenge provides unparalleled opportunities for new Christian writers to hone their skills, receive feedback from their peers, and possibly even see their work published,” Mrs. Porter explained. “Since the Challenge began in 2003, we have had the privilege of publishing hundreds of exceptionally talented Christian writers--people who, in some cases, may have otherwise never been able to find that first doorway of opportunity. ‘Come Away with Me’ is an example of this, with its combination of outstanding authors from our previous books, together with many exciting, new writers that I feel sure will soon become firm favorites with readers.”

‘Come Away with Me’ is an invitation to shake off the wintry, heaviness of life, and to enter into the sunshine of God’s everlasting spring.

FaithWriters.com, the premier site for Christian writers, announces the winners in the annual Best of the Best Writing Challenge.

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) August 9, 2006 - Dozens of judges wade through thousands of manuscripts and in the end there is only one 'Best of the Best' writer. This year-long contest begins as a weekly challenge and ends with only one of more than 6,000 challenge entries taking the coveted FaithWriters' title.

"The Annual FaithWriters' Best of the Best awards really were a natural progression of the weekly Writing Challenge. The Challenge has grown quite dramatically since its humble beginnings in 2003," says Deborah Porter, Weekly Challenge Coordinator for FaithWriters.

To make this point, records indicate the response to the challenge has more than doubled since its inception. Porter asserts, "As [the challenge] has grown, so too has the quality of material being submitted. Finding a way to recognize and reward the very best of all the weekly winners really was the motivation for the introduction of the annual Best of the Best awards."

The top three entries each year receive a place in the annals of 'Best of the Best' history along with a generous cash award. This year's top three entries are as follows:

1st Place ($300) The Heart of Lucinda Druell by Kenn Allan
2nd Place ($100) And God Breathes... by Ann Grover
3rd Place ($75) Altar by Ann Grover

Eligibility requirements for the challenge are rather specific. In each of the forty scheduled weekly challenge only the entry that is ranked in first place is qualified for consideration in the 'Best of the Best' challenge. Porter declares, "The competition for this coveted spot is very high. I think this makes Kenn Allan's win all the more amazing. This gentleman's entry, 'The Heart of Lucinda Druell' was not only judged to be the most outstanding submission for the year, but four of his other eligible entries were ranked in 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th place overall. It really is fair to say that Kenn Allan was most definitely the very Best of the Best for 2006,"

The FaithWriter's challenge is a faith-based writing contest and ten weekly challenges are conducted each quarter based on a specific word prompt and word count. Literary judges look at the submissions using more than six separate criteria. None of the judges know the names of any of the authors represented in any given challenge.

When asked how he felt about his placement as 'Best of the Best', Allan responded, "At first I was stunned, which was closely followed by a sense of gratitude. Next came the jarring impact of receiving such a high honor by my peers. Lastly, I fell into a contemplative mood. So, in answer to your question, I'm not sure a word exists which describes my feelings perfectly. Shockogrataspective, maybe?"

In summing up the things that seem to draw writers from around the world to this challenge, Porter notes, "Encouragement, opportunity, and recognition are all key components of the FaithWriters' weekly Writing Challenge, and these same things are at the heart of the Best of the Best awards as well."

FaithWriters.com, the premier site for Christian writers, has released its ninth anthology, "FaithWriters--Inspiration at Your Fingertips."

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) November 29, 2006 -- When a writer sits down to create, they may be inspired at their keyboard, but very few, if any, have ever been inspired by their keyboard. That was, until FaithWriters.com chose something as ordinary as a computer keyboard for the theme of their weekly Writing Challenge, and their ninth anthology, "Inspiration at Your Fingertips," is the very surprising result.

FaithWriters.com Writing Challenge Coordinator, Deborah Porter, said that when longtime FaithWriters member, Dave Wagner, suggested the Keyboard theme for the weekly Writing Challenge, her immediate reaction was that it just wouldn't work.

"My first thought was, 'How on earth can we make an inspirational book about a keyboard?'" she admitted. "But then, I looked down at my hands and started reading some of the words on my own well-worn keyboard, and I knew, straight away, that we were onto a winner--and I definitely wasn't disappointed."

For ten weeks, members of FaithWriters.com were invited to write about such broad topics as "Home," "Help," "Escape," "Lock," and even "Space," without knowing that the theme tying these topics together was something as simple as a computer keyboard. This allowed the writers plenty of room to let their imaginations and creativity run wild. The result is an exciting and inspirational collection of writing that will take the reader by surprise.

FaithWriters--Inspiration at Your Fingertips (ISBN: 1414108303, Pleasant Word, 2006, $17.99) is a collection of 80 award winning inspirational, encouraging, and entertaining messages by over 50 of the very best Christian authors from the FaithWriters.com Writing Challenge--including the FaithWriters' Best of the Best award winner for 2006: "The Heart of Lucinda Druell" by Kenn Allan.

The weekly Writing Challenge has rapidly grown from its humble, member-initiated beginnings in 2003, to what it is today--a very popular contest for Christian writers, with the best entries each week being published in the quarterly anthologies, such as "Inspiration at Your Fingertips."

"The Writing Challenge provides unparalleled opportunities for new Christian writers to hone their skills, receive feedback from their peers, and possibly even see their work published," Mrs. Porter explained. "'Inspiration at Your Fingertips' is a wonderful mix of favorite authors from previous anthologies, together with many brand new and exciting writers."

Dara Lowe and Rachel Rudd are two FaithWriters.com members who are being published for the first time in the "Inspiration at Your Fingertips" anthology.

"I must admit, to see my name and my story in print is incredibly exciting," Ms. Lowe said. "The Writing Challenge has been a great way for me to open up and let go of some of my self-consciousness about my writing ability. Being published is an author's dream."

Rachel Rudd shared Ms. Lowe's excitement. "Having my work published in this book means that I am actually a writer. I am blessed with the privilege of sharing words with others and, hopefully, affecting their lives. It is not only a confirmation of myself as a writer, but it is also a reminder of why God wants me to write."

"Inspiration at Your Fingertips" is, quite possibly, the quirkiest of all the FaithWriters' anthologies to date, but readers will also find it a very satisfying, encouraging and delightful selection of stories and poems for their enjoyment.

FaithWriters.com and Finesse Writing and Editing Service announce the winners of their inaugural Page Turner Writing Contest.

Livonia, MI (PRWEB) December 10, 2007 -- After 11 months of nail-biting suspense, the winners of the first FaithWriters.com/Finesse Writing and Editing Service "Page Turner Contest" have at last been announced, with the 1st prize, and champion status, going to J.C. Lamont for her epic novel, Prophecy of the Heir.

The 2007 Page Turner Writing Contest began on January 1, with the focus for the year being fiction. Entrance to the competition was open to all members of the FaithWriters 500 (members who have committed to help support FaithWriters.com financially), and over 50 submissions were received before entries closed on June 30. Each entry comprised of a synopsis, outlining the planned storyline overall, together with the first chapter of the manuscript. Judging was based on the strength of both these elements.

Deborah Porter, owner of Finesse Writing and Editing Service, and longtime supporter of FaithWriters, admits she wasn't prepared for the standard of entries the contest received. "The main goal of the contest was to spur authors on to write their dream novel, and in the process, find the entries that have the greatest potential for publication. Although I thought there may be a handful of entries with that potential, I was stunned by just how many were really quite excellent. I wanted to keep reading most of them, which is exactly what being a page turner is all about."

As well as Ms. Lamont's 1st place win, there were two runners up: Sarah Whitaker for her novel, The Raggedyman, and Lynda Schab, with Mind Over Madi.

Entries to the 2007 contest spanned a wide range of genres, including everything from historical fiction and romance through to cutting edge science fiction and thrillers. The three winning entries, alone, were from three very different genres. Ms. Lamont's Prophecy of the Heir is an epic Christian fantasy; Ms. Whitaker's The Raggedyman is a dark Christian thriller, and Ms. Schab's Mind Over Madi is a lighthearted, humorous story from the growing "mom lit" genre.

Mrs. Porter stated that the very broad variety of genres represented in the Page Turner entries is indicative of just how large the Christian fiction field is these days. "Christian authors are really breaking out of the box, and ultimately, that's a great thing for readers. Our three winners would probably have been considered too 'out there' in the past, but at FaithWriters we've seen that many Christian readers are now looking for this type of material. Even better, although written specifically for Christian readers, many of the books submitted to this year's Page Turner contest will appeal to non-Christians as well, and that has to be a good thing."

As the 2007 Page Turner Champion, Ms. Lamont will receive:

    Free editing of her Prophecy of the Heir manuscript;
    An $800 cash prize;
    Free publicity and marketing of her book on all FaithWriters' sites (including FaithWriters' Magazine) for 12 months, after publication;
A press release to promote Prophecy of the Heir when it is published; and
A special "Page Turner Champion" award plaque.

The two Page Turner runners up for 2007 will also receive award plaques and the offer of half-price editing for their winning manuscripts.

The 2008 Page Turner Contest will open on January 1, with the focus for entries shifting from fiction to non-fiction.

Defining the needs of 47,000 members can be difficult, but for FaithWriters.com those needs translate to improved site design and user experience. The recently revised website is drawing praise from users at a memorable point in the life of the organization – it’s ninth year.

Online PR News – 13-January-2010 – Livonia, MI (PR Web) January 10th, 2010 — The launch of a revised platform for FaithWriters.com (www.faithwriters.com) brings new interest in a new year. The year 2010 marks the 9th anniversary of the well-established writer’s website and a revised look was important to owner Scott Lindsay.

Current statistics suggest the site has nearly 47,000 members and over 150,000 articles in the database. The forums host hundreds of members who seek connection and opportunity through networking.

“There’s always expectations related to the growth of FaithWriters. I couldn’t do this work alone. Committed staff and volunteers have helped make it possible for an important milestone in our ninth year.”Lindsay considered the opportunity to revise the look of FaithWriters as a means of stepping up the impact of the organization, “FaithWriters.com has been the number 1 site for Christian Writers for over 5 years now. However, we needed a facelift. Our goal was to bring FaithWriters.com into the web 2.0 era. This meant larger text, easier navigation, and a lot of cool icons. I think we accomplished our goal. It’s my hope that even more Christian writers will want to call FaithWriters their home on the web.”

Initial response has been strongly in favor of the streamlined design. FaithWriter forum members have said, “Awesome new look… Love, love it… Great start to the New Year… Wow, looks great… Thank You.”

The site features multiple free services, but has a supportive tier known as the FaithWriters 500. Those members enjoy enhanced features and writing tools while their subscription fees help maintain free services for the thousands who use FaithWriters.com on a regular basis. Lindsay said, “This upgrade serves as a testament to the ongoing commitment to writers of faith. The connections they find here have helped develop friendships, contacts and paid work.”

FaithWriters has conducted seminars in both the U.S. and Australia with a summer conference scheduled for August in Michigan.

Lindsay concludes, “There’s always expectations related to the growth of FaithWriters. I couldn’t do this work alone. Committed staff and volunteers have helped make it possible for an important milestone in our ninth year.”
