A New Thing
jmay 5-25-09

Isaiah 43:19 – Behold, I will do a new thing: now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

God wants to do a new thing in your life. He wants to work a miracle so that you may KNOW He is God. I believe that with all my heart. I haven’t always been so convinced of the miracles of God. Sure, I knew He did many miracles in biblical times - but now? Yes…..even now, in these hard economic times. I now believe because I have experienced His miracles in my own life. I now know His promises are true!

God has a lot to say about money in His Holy Word. Dave Ramsey says that money in some form or fashion is mentioned in the Bible over 800 times! God must be pretty serious about this subject to talk about it that much. In fact, Jesus says in Luke 16:11, "If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, (money) who will commit to your trust the true riches?" It appears from this verse that God uses money as a test of our management and stewardship skills before entrusting us with spiritual things. And if we are not faithful with the little bit He gives us, we will not be faithful with much.

God knows mammon (or money) can be a stronghold for us. Satan uses it to lull us into a false sense of security when our only sense of security should be Jesus. When was the last time you said within your heart “if I just had a little more money, I would be ok, or if I just had a little more money I could give more, etc?” It’s a lie from satan. He is the spirit of unrighteous mammon. And he wants nothing more but to destroy you and constantly keep you dependent on money. That old devil knows if you trust God with everything, the end result will be total victory in Jesus Christ.

The true riches Jesus is talking about are the spiritual riches available to every believer. The riches we can experience in fully knowing God through Jesus Christ in a very personal way. The power through Jesus Christ to overcome satan and his strongholds on our minds - the power to be a blessing to God and others because He has blessed us with spiritual riches. God is looking for some willing vessels to work out His will and His miracles. When we totally submit to him in every area, and especially in the financial area - we become that willing vessel to be used of Him. We prove God and His promises. We are like a conduit; He pours the blessings in and we pour them back to Him for His honor and glory. And guess what? It works! And there’s always more than enough! He supplies ALL our needs!

Don't ask me how it works because I cannot explain it fully. I just know that it does. My checkbook doesn't make sense. Sometimes I go back and refigure the amounts two or three times after I pay my bills. There is always enough and some left over! And I know it's because of God - He does it. He works miracles in my finances because I have learned to bring back to Him the "firstfruits" of my paycheck. I have began writing my tithe and offering check as soon as I receive my paycheck. Then I pray over it. Recently I started giving a little more than 10%. The first payday I did that, I won a contest at work for $50. - that same day. More than double the extra money I committed back to God! But the best part is not that He ALWAYS gives back and supplies all my needs. The very best part is that He lets me know He is pleased with me....He gives me such joy in my obedience to Him. It's the true spiritual rcihes Jesus talked about.

In Matthew 6: 21 Jesus said “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Then in verse 24 He says: “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

We must trust God enough to say “ok God, it’s all Yours, everything You gave me, I bring back to you.” Not “give” back to Him, because it’s all His to start with! We “bring” back the firstfruits of our increase as a sacrifice of our love, gratitude, trust and commitment to Him. We must step out on faith, with a humble and willing heart, even if we are scared to do so and bring back to God what is rightfully His. That is proving God. It’s a heart thing, a total submission to Him that He will always honor.

Let Him do a new thing in you. If you just allow Jesus to rebuke that unrighteous spirit of mammon in your life – that false sense of security that satan gives you though a dependence on money, He will do a new thing! The end result is total freedom and liberty in Christ! Then sit back and watch His promises come to fruition.

“Bring ye (not give, remember?) all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.” Malachi 3:10-11.

Prove Him, I dare you to. May God richly bless you as you do.
