I must confess that I used to be obsessed with American Idol.
Not anymore.
I'm glad that a devout Christian Kris Allen wins, although as far as singing talent is concerned, the rock and rolling Adam who loves eyeliners and black nail polish sings higher notes and have a better stage presence. But honestly, I am proud that I gave my few votes for Kris.
But idol worship?
No. Not anymore! These people have talents and personalities but just like us, they are human beings with faults. They are not perfect.
I like singing. I have high respect for those contestants who have the courage to stand in front of millions of people to be judged not only with their voices but personalities. To face Simon is probably like walking on hot coals of fire.
After seeing the bikini girl and one of the female judges showing her own asset last night, I said to myself, “Never again will I watch the show!” Then I heard they did it for charity. That’s plain ridiculous! What is wrong with the world? You call that charity? I call it plain disgusting! Give to charity if you will, but do it in good taste.
I can go on and on with how I feel about the perils of watching American idols. One of which is the tendency for idol worship. Be warned. I’ve been there.
And I regret it.
God forgive me.
Yes, I was entertained. I was also disappointed.
What do you say about this Simon?

Oh, yes, Gloria! I so agree with you! It seems today that people are admiring all the wrong attributes and 'idolizing' things that are tasteless and downright disgusting, at times. There is only ONE whom we should worship and that is our Lord. He gets all my votes! Let's hope He can bring some heavenly talent to our world so that we can appreciate what goodness and beauty really is. Thank you, Gloria...once again, you have enlightend us. God bless you... Hi Gloria I too have enjoyed American Idol. I have never voted for anyone, but I am happy that Chris won as well. I think it says alot for our American people, especially with the big issue of same sex marriage being so prevalent. I believe that it was Adams lifestyle the people were so upset about and well they should be. It says to me that idol worship is out and lifestyle is back in, PTL. Good article, I love you, Sharon
